Proffit's Cruisers Big Tex done 2.2

I started this back about the end of January while my Fun Buggy frame was out being sandblasted.

Another one started. My goal with this one is to bring it as close to the original as possible and keep it Scale Comp capable. Ive seen a few of these frames built already and they have looked great, for me though they've missed somethings that bring them to match exactly. Call me crazy but yeah I like the challenges, expecially starting another one of this level while still working on my first one. :ror:

Well Ive really picked up a likenss for the FJ bodies so this time I wanted to do an older Landcruiser build. I found Proffitt's Cruisers and chose Big Tex.

So heres where it starts me now that I know what Im building ............ Scale is detail and well what can I say, Im hooked on this part.

GM 350

couple of styrene sheets to widen the motor bit

glued with tranny cut off

hmmm Hollow?

Ahhh and we see ......

didnt get much done today on it, had a local GTG so was out all day.

Did get my rear spring stops done with a little twist of my own idea. Seeing that the rear doesnt use sprung shocks and relies on the leaf springs for ride height control I decided to add to it, a away to adjust weight bias/pitch.

now i can control ride height in the rear and use the coils upfront to level it out. im also thinking i can help control weight bias by changing chassis rake, lift the rear throw more weight forward and vice versa.

thanks for watching

gotten some progress done on her ......

the finish on this thing is incredible and the gears inside feel flawless. no doubt this should hold up to some serious abuse.

and for size comparison

so we get the belly sides done and mount the t-case

and notice we're looking at a 9'' front drive shaft ....

so with some thinking, an old HiLift driveshaft, some Delrin and left over bearings we come up with its own carrier bearing

after getting my styrene sheets from Nick Rummy I get to start on the fun stuff ..........

firewall

receiver box/fuel cell

Nope didnt forget about this one :ror:

lets start with the seats. needed a way to remove the seats easily but be sure they stayed in place when the rough came calling.

took our normal cell phone seat apart

and made some seat racks

took the interior and made the holders for them

and slid the seats into place

those aint going any where lol.

well my original idea of the GD600 hooked to the RC4WD transfer case didnt work out to well. simply not enough reduction in the combo :-(

got hooked up with killjoyken in the forsale area and got a great R2 w/disconnect tranny ;-) although the digs not gonna be connected atleast its there if i decide later.

OK so got some cosmetics done.

These little book lights work great. Come with a 3V LED, diameter 3/4'' and only cost 1$

and some wiring

now some outdoors (not all happy with the tires and wheels so those are still on the 'what to do' list)
