Fake rally car / desert toy Volvo 940 turbo

Lots of copy paste. From another site.
V2.0 is here.
Here's the new. 93 940 turbo. Picked it up with plans to sell the wheels and buy some off-road tires and 15s. It has a blown head gasket that I just got the parts yesterday. New hg, wp, timing belt. This one will stay smaller turbo possibly 16t in the future.

Tires arrived today.

Got the thing pretty much ready. I added some 26?mm spacers to the rear. Trimmed the fenders and wired in the roof lights. Tossed a stereo in and it's good enough for this weekend. I'll toss a boost controller on it and turn it up to 13-14 psi on the hot air generator 13c.

Happy new year everybody. The car survived for the most part. We went to the desert (ocotillo wells) on Thursday morning till Sunday afternoon. Josh from yoshifab bright his Volvo powered Land Rover out and brought me a boost controller so I can have some more powaaaa. I turned the boost up to 13-14psi guestmating. Playing around at first it was evident the locker worked but it was taking it time to engage so I promptly got stuck screwing around. As the weekend went on it seemed to lock in quicker so I only had to get pulled out this one time. My wife (pro_star) got it stuck on a really soft dune.
We cruised around all weekend and had a blast. People we just estatic to see us out there in a car lol. The front corner markers would self eject when we hit hard enough. We had to go back 2-3 times to find them. The front struts have no oil left in them and the springs are sacked. I have some plans in the works to make some front coil overs using fox 2.0" bodies. More on that to come.

A friend of mine broke both his ankles so another friend built him a 4x4 mobility scooter

Terrible night pic out in a area we call the mud hills. Led lightbar and headlights only.

Tiny turbo doing its hairdryer things

Blow sand hill

Little area near blow sand

Shell reef

Loaded up and headed home.

Just got back from King of the hammers. I ended up having to tow a friends dodge halfway there so the car got unloaded and the dodge put on the trailer. (Had to replace the injection pump on the dodge). Drove it around all weekend without and issues except for a very odd issue that I couldn't really figure out. It would run great have have good power for a few seconds then it would just dog out. I think later it ended up being the alternator bolt came loose and it was loosing voltage as we found that on the way home.

It has a lot more ground clearance than my friends bronco 2 on the same size tires. I went down a trail and did get stuck but a quick tug got my front bumper off the wall and I was able to get out with what I think is very surprising minimal damage.

My friends explorer ended up locking up his trans and I towed him home while kat (wife, aka prostar) drove the car all the way home.

Pics

It's definitely not a car for you if you don't want attention. Just driving it around is hilarious at how many people get a kick out of it.

Took it out and did the trails that we missed last time. The left front strut is beginning to rattle in the tube but I need to finish the fox coilovers first.
After driving a for a few hours I suddenly got a misfire. Fearing the worst I opened the hood to find a spark plug tip unsrcrewed inside the plug wire. I put it back on and it was fixed. Currently I have a friend daily driving it because his excursion lost a trans.
I live in Ramona and this is where we ended up following trails only.

Cool areas out there

Ended up at a closed gate. I tried to get the wife t drive back but she was enjoying the scenery instead.

Went out on a different trail that took up up to the top of the mountain range nearby

A lot of stuff is still in bloom

Beautiful typical Southern California day

Doesn't look like much in the picture but I had to get the locker to lock in then hit it pretty hard lol.

My photobucket is giving me all kinds of trouble. It's all messed up. Uploading doubles and making my pics all out of order... Dammit.

Got it back from my friend finally. He borrowed it and daily drove it while he put a transmission in his excursion.
It was parked under a nasty tree apparently and had sap all over it. So I cleaned it.
Harlard just hooked me up with a good set of front seat belts as mine both blew apart when the tensioners went off.
I also fixed the air conditioning. It had a small hole in the condenser. So I replaced it and then had a issue with the vents changing mode when loosing vacuum. I plugged one diaphragm off and it got better but not good enough. So I ordered a vacuum pump from Amazon and tied it in to the system.

Only hint from the outside of the shocks.

Tested the valving and the rear will be amazing once the front can do something lol

We changed the rebound valving again. Added a extra bleed hole in the piston and made the rebound stack a 6 thousands shim stack instead of 8.
Also got the correct top springs in. 100 x 12. May need to adjust the cross over rings but for right now it works good. We're taking it to the desert next weekend so I'll hopefully get some videos and pics. We're usually too busy driving and enjoying it that we don't get much footage though.

A car shouldn't handle like this lol.

Did a few things today. My strut towers were completely bent in. I put a porta power on them and pushed them back out. ~2.5-3" lol. I then made a brace out of 1.75x .120 tube. I then focused on getting the cab a little less dusty.

Used tape and spray foam to seal trunk from cab best I could

Speaker has a hole? Do you take it out? Nah. Fill it with spray foam.

Checked a few clearances as I would get a random pop. Had to bend a little sheet metal but all good.
