E-braking

Noob ???
Is the old use of the Scandinavian flick being replaced with e-braking?
Or is it a preference?

I think its a preference thing, mostly. I did learn that its a bitch to iniatie a flick, or power over drift in an AWD car with under 300 whp, but the e brake does fucking wonders for a quick 180 around cones or barrels in Gymkhana. Come into the turn, put the front bumper close to the barrel, grab the brake, and slam the car around, trying to touch bumper to barrel, slide wide, and let the awd slingshot you ot the turn into the straight

It all depends on the car and the situation. But ive found its sorta like this: The E-brake pull tends to be used in slow speed hairpin corners aka 1+ corners. Slow meaning below 50 mph or so. Its great for a 60* or more rotation of the car when you dont need to scrub off speed. Problem is, your off the throttle for a moment which can cause you to loose boost in a turbo car and also unsettle to chassis. I have personally found it a great moment to change gears as in a WRX you need to be on the clutch anyway to execute a e-brake turn.

The flick tends to be used in box corners aka 3+ turns. These can be taken at higher speeds than a hairpin. A good example of this is a street corner at 90* or a right angle. For this you need to scrub of a bit of speed but dont need a massive rotation of the car. So you flick and use that to scrub off speed while correcting angle with the throttle. Then you dont have to hit the brakes, nor lift of the throttle much.
If you try the e-brake at that speed, you run the risk of the ass end of the car overtaking the front and you just spin out.

The flick tends to be a slower rotation of the car, and is more sustainable. If your cars rear end rotates faster than the fronts forward momentum, you just spin out. If you can keep the front of the car traveling at the same speed as the rears rotation, then you have a slide. Thats what a flick is all about. But to do that correctly, you need speed. When you dont have the speed to slide, you use the e-brake to force it.

Sorry, it sounds like I was kinda rambling there.

Simply put.. No, its not replacing the e-brake turn. Its just a different type of maneuver for a different situation.

Thanks for the replies! So it seems like having a large power to weight ratio would smooth things out more..Years ago I had an Austin america that had
an auto in it that would upshift and downshift automatically,that thing was slow but was a blast to drive,seemed like you were always in the right gear....
