2012 Rubicon Events Calendar

Click Here for a calendar of Rubicon Events

It's that time of year, to prepare for 2012!

If you all could follow some simple rules...it will really help me and most importantly everyone else.

Name of group
Date: Start to End (ie: 7/10-14)
How many rigs...(A guess or range is fine!)
Where/direction (ie: Loon to Springs and back or Tahoe to Loon)

PLEASE NOTE!
There are 2 events that the trail is closed.

1) The Jeepers Jamboree in July. On the website, click the 4 Day or 3 day link to see those July dates.

2) The JEEP Jamboree in August. Just below the 3 Day Link, is the Jeep Jamboree link. Click that to see the August dates.

All other smaller Jeepers Jamboree events do not close the trail. Hope that helps.

This helps everyone know if they are facing 100 rigs in a group or not.

This will be my first attempt at the Rubicon after honing my nerves at MOAB.
The last update I read on the F.O.T.R. site is dated 2005 recommending use of WAG bags to pack it all out. One in my group posed a question I do not have the answer for...Do they have rest rooms, porta potties, out houses by now?

( NO they didn't have em MOAB either, but gotta ask ) ( Wait, someone did stage a roll of TP at the top of Hell's Revenge )

Next question, is it better to make our trip just before or just after the Jamboree? And if you are thinking before because we know the Calvary is coming what is the last date they will allow a non-participant group to enter the trail prior to the jamboree?

Next question, If you had one chance to see the Rubicon 2012, due to the drive, what route would you take? We plan to start on Sunday or Monday to avoid the crowds.

Our TJ rigs are on 6" long arms, 35s, locked front and rear, one with winch/welding abilities,
all sliders and skids in place, but have only rubbed door paint once in 7 years going up Devel's Canyon in SoCal, never done JV, but on the list.

one rig is a trailer queen and my winch point, brings on the last Question for now...Where do I get green sticker and can it be done in advance.

Where to park the tow rig?

Look forward to the responses and prepared to take a little heat for some of the dumb questions....

I have talked with Jeep Jamboree USA specifically, on the question of trail closure for the Jeeper's Jamboree in July and Jeep Jamboree in August. Every year people ask about trail being closed during this time.

First of all, JJ has a parade permit for exclusive access to the trail. Given the vehicle count...you wouldn't WANT to be on the trail anyway. That said....the official word on this.

The entire trail is closed to the public on Thursday (July 26), Friday (July 27) and Friday (August 3). So that's 3 days, out of 365.

The trail is OPEN for traffic from Wentworth/Loon to Buck Island ONLY, on Saturday (July 28), Sunday (July 29), Monday (July 30), Saturday (August 4) and Sunday (August 5). During these days, the traffic is all at Rubicon Springs, therefore the trail is closed from Buck Island to Tahoe.

They said, as long as you do not enter the trail until Saturday and stay between Loon and Buck Island...there won't be any issue. This is a much better, and more clarified response, than we've had in the past.

Recap:

Trail Closed:
July 26
July 27
Aug 3

Trail OPEN Loon to Buck/CLOSED Buck to Tahoe
July 28
July 29
July 30
Aug 4
Aug 5

The Calendar has been updated accordingly. Please respect the event.

Memorial in July

I am in the process of planning a memorial for an avid 4 wheeler that passed away from cancer. Small group of Rigs going in from Tahoe to the memorial site at base of Cadillac Hill & back out to tahoe. Thinking about July 20-22, 2012. Does anyone know the typical travel time from tahoe to the memorial site? Also, once I find out how many want to go, I will be asking for volunteers to transport people from Tahoe to the site and back. RIP Larry Cash!

Obviously, depends on your rig....but from staging to bottom of Cadillac...about 2-2.5 hours would be reasonable.
