I'm staying in Tahoe this week and wanted to do some dirt biking. I'm on a YZ250 and the wife is on a KX144. Went to the Tahoe Basin supervisors office and they said that all of their trails will be closed until May 15th. We are trying to avoid the hour and a half drive down to Georgetown or Foresthill to ride. Has anyone been on the east side of the Rubicon lately? Is it dry enough for bikes? I have never been on it but we generally like technical riding. Is it a good alternative to the drive?

The east side is higher and holds the snow longer. The good news is the Eldorado Nat forest is open

Your best bet is the Boca area....or Reno. Unless someone has seen the trail on that side and says different...but historically, it's always a good 2-3 weeks behind the El Do side...and usually LOTS of water...

My experiences have been the same when I ride my KTM on the tahoe side! Like ATVobsession said, that area is 2-3 weeks latter melting the snow, with nasty off camber snow drifts and the water can be VERY deep! The more fun idea is to ride somewhere else for the next couple of weeks.

There's pictures in the thread about it....

Pretty easy what happened to it....High winds....If you look at the tree, the root holding it up was about a inch thick. It's amazing it stayed up as long as it did.

they should have re purposed the tree in someway.... that's actually what i ment by the "what happened to it" comment.

did it get utilized for something else? ... some sort of "monument" of sorts... someone should put a plaque in it's place with some general history about the tree..... that would be really cool.

It is still there. There has been discussions at the ROC meeting, in setting dates to do the work.

There will be monuments....

I just went through the entire "lost friend" thread, i enjoyed reading your input and watching the video atvobsession, alot of people had great ideas. I hope to see it in it's new life form whatever that may be. If it makes money for the con that would be something i'd love to contribute too.

That will surely happen Shamb. Hang on tight because the plan is forming fast and we will need the help of the FOTR to get that thing on the ground. The site visit is complete, the plan has been submitted to the County and we are waiting for a confirmation so we can set a date to do the work.

The trail is clear or very nearly clear of snow right now and we can access the Little Sluice easily. Your help is needed and wanted so hang on for another day or two. I hope that by Monday at the latest we will have a plan all ready to go. It will be short notice and we will do our best to get the word out.

I know of a few people heading up this weekend. I told them to watch out for people messing with the tree. We all know there is probably gonna be a few people who want a piece for themselves

I cleaned and stocked it on Wednesday, and had Vickie order a label for the door on Thursday at the ROC. I'll be back in to take care of it on Wednesday of this week...don't have a thing for Wednesdays, just working out that way

Trail is clear of snow and the water is almost done. There is snow up on the tops of the peaks around, but the trail looks to be in good shape from Loon to Rubicon Springs.

The Cadillac side is still snowbound and will need a couple more weeks to dry out.

Some friends and I are planning a trip to the Rubicon this weekend coming up. Is it looking like the trail might be clear all the way through to Tahoe or is Rubicon Springs the farthest we're going to be able to make it?

I know you can get to the springs, past that, I would expect some snow drifts.

Maniac is in the springs right now. If someone local could get on the 805/rubi to see if he has made it past caddi hill, that would be the best report for Tahoe conditions right now.

I ran into Josh(?) and Chas...of POR....they had gone through. They said there wasn't much snow.
