I thank that was one of the most lasting landmarks of the rubicon, truly sad it's gone. I'm glad I got pictures with it.
I had thoughts of seeing it resurrected there, but like others, I agree. Mother nature said it was time.

Horrible news..........Just not the same with that tree down. Whomever the tree expert is: Does anyone know the true age of that tree or estimate? I have been told 1000yrs to 3000yrs?? Is that possible?
Just when I thought this week couldnt get worst. KC

That tree greeted so many people and welcomed them to some of the our State's best adventures. So gut wrenching.

Other than a lake view, that was the best place to rest, get out of the sun, have a tasty beverage and watch some great action. I know I sound like a treehugger, but that icon will truly be missed.

I am saddened to see the loss. I am glad my oldest son (9) was able to see it and enjoy it. Too bad he wont appreciate it for years. My middle son wasn't able to. And this bothers me. With the impending closure looming, I want to lay down and quit, BUT I can't and won't. I will continue to do what I can, because I love this place. And I want my children to love it. RIP tree.

I drove from Canada to the Rubicon in 1992 in a 1980 CJ - my first big wheeling adventure and remember the tree from then, bought the Jeep just to do the trail back then. Returned a few years ago and staged my 4 runner and a buddies Suzuki in the same spot as that classic image and took some pictures under the tree, sad to see it go but Mother nature is a tough bitch and the cycle can't be broken. That tree has seen more wheeling than all of us on this board together RIP - TREE.

Another landmark bites the dust. To try and make something good come out of it, how about getting the county to hand over the tree, cut pieces and engrave Rubicon Trail on them to be sold as a fundraiser? Just a thought>>>
