All this said, if the tree is still there when the snow melts enough for folks to get in there, RTF would like to ask for some patience until the tree can be removed from the road. There are plans to get it out of the way as soon as reasonably possible.

I suppose the Sluice could be used from the top down and back up again. I bet most folks think that is too difficult

LOL

My personal wishes aside, asking on PBB to wait is one thing... we know that PBB users are a minority of folks out on the trail... what is being done to let the majority users know/ask them to be patient and to not mess with it? I know putting signage on anything 'means' shoot the sign to other users, is there any way to let other folks know? Trailhead info signage?

It'd be alright with me if after the trail was cleared, the tree was just left there for nature to do its thing. Too bad it wouldn't get left alone.

January 2012, strange without snow

A bench, or two, above the box would be awesome.

Renolaw, sucks to hear they took out that big tree near Gold Lake. Loved that spot and would always stop to enjoy it.

Yep. May 19, 2012 it was cut down to the trunk. On May 23, it was lifted out.

You can watch the video here.

So how old was the juniper? Never did hear the final estimate.

If I recall....it was impossible to count rings....because the tree was hollow....in fact, when the tree was cut....there was a rock...sealed inside the tree. RTF has it...and we're looking to make a display, so people can check it out.

Anyway...I think the best guess was 1500 years. Dark ages...essentially, it started growing.

5 year anniversary of the tree.

I watch Tim Green's sledding videos and it would be easy to spot the box if the tree was still there.
