HAM Freq. on the Rubicon

I did a search in this forum for info but didn't come across any.

I noticed HAM being mentioned in the thread by Subaru4WD. I'm a HAM operator and will be running the Rubicon next year with a group of trucks that most here would consider "questionable".

I've checked my national repeater directory and found a few around that area but was curious as to any that focus on that area and traffic from groups running the Rubicon.

Just trying to come up with some contingency plans in case there is an emergency on the trail or need to report any extreme non-Tread Lightly! type behavior. I figure CB won't reach and cell coverage is spotty at best. I run a high power HAM rig, I also carry several portable tower units for basecamp settings.

Would be nice to have a channel (simplex, repeater, etc.) that someone might check every couple of hours in case of severe emergency with our group or any that we come across.

Thanks for any info.

JD

I don't know of a standard channel for HAMM on the trail. I know the Land Rover guys run HAMM a lot. Try a search for the Northern CA land Rover club.

Del, thanks for the info and direction to the LR clubs. I'll check them out.

Dan-H, thanks for the great info. Seems I should have searched the entire message board instead of just the Rubicon forum.

Cheers,
JD

I have had good luck hitting the repeters in Vacaville but spotty coverage on the trail in low spots.

Dan, thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with the towns in the area. I started matching towns with the ARRL Repeater Directory and maping out 2M and 70cm repeaters in the area. I wasn't sure about Vacaville but now I am!

Thanks,
JD
