Rubicon Mem. Weekend?

So what is the verdict?
Is everyone making other arrangements or are you still going through ? Trying to get an idea on what to expect, no sense having a miserable trip right?

most people are going to avoid the trail, to help prevent damage to it, as it is not dry enough to wheel yet.

In fact more snow fell after the initial talks here on the board.
It's messy up there.
I hear the Hammers are going to get some action that weekend.

Posted elsewhere by Dan Hoover:

Last week I left a message with Eldo NF asking if it was OK to clear dead and downed trees on the rubicon without any specific permit or approval.

Rich Platt, the resource officer for Eldorado NF, pacific ranger district finally got back to me. He was out of town for a while or would have returned my call sooner.

Unfortunately, I was out so he left me a voicemail, but his response was a permit is *not* needed if the wood is staying more or less where it was downed. Its OK to buck up the tree into manageble sized pieces to clear as long as we are not removing the tree from the forest.

He did say you need a permit to cut and remove firewood from the forest, but it sounds like all we are doing is clearing the trail so people don't drive off the trail.

He thanked me for the phone call and appreciated the fact we are sensitive to "doing it right".

He also thanked "US", for all the work we do to keep the trail open, and understands alot happens outside of planned and scheduled cleanups and work days.

So, there it is. A nod of approval, and a USFS contact if anyone has more questions.

disclaimer: I would not assume that this is blanket approval for any trail other than the rubicon. I specifically asked about the rubicon, and asked the district that oversees the forest where the rubicon is located. If you have a similar question for a different trail in another forest, make a phone call. Its that easy.
