Jeeper Jambo...can other's run it?

I don't want to get into a FS vs. Jeeps thing but...

a group of about 6 heavily modified FS rigs have banned together to run the Rubicon, about half of us have run the 'Con before, but the date we can run it falls in a Jeep Jambo (July 25-27).

should be pust if further out? I didn't see a true "calendar of events on the 'Con, and I don't think people can really shut it down for thier "club"...

so anyway...suggestions?

Since the 'Con is a county road, they get a parade permit. Shut it down that way. And have for years. I'm sure others more knowledgable than me will provide input here, but that's the word.

I've heard, and don't quote me on this, but the trail can only be shut down for part of the day. Technically you can go through during the night.

I believe it's open during the jambo from 11:00pm to 5:00am or it's 12:00am to 6:00am, but it is open.

I went on the jamboree last year
and there was a few guys up there
campin.. Nothing was said to them..
But there were others on the trail
while the jamboree was driving through
and they were told to get off and get out
So if you stay out of their way you should
be ok. dont be on the trail when they are

Pretty much everyone on Jambo is in the Springs by friday night except for a few brokes ones , JJ has staions set up at Spider lake and a Repair station at Buck Island if you go in friday late or early Saturday am you should not have any trouble if you go all the way through to tahoe you will not be able to camp in the Springs Thursday and Friday are big travel days for them.

The Jamboree folks do have an EXCLUSIVE right via a parade pass from the county to use the Rubicon Trail during those two weeks. I'd move my trip to dates other than those if I were doing the planning. You can read more on my Rubicon web site:

thanks,Del

SeaBass44,
I suspect you didn't have a problem because you probably didn't cause a problem for the Jamboree folks. I know the owners and they're pretty nice guys.

But, for me, to know that they have the trail, by right (like it or not), for their use those two weeks, and that a violation IS possible if someone wants to push it, I just figure there's other places I can wheel during that time period.

The fact that the County still owns this road and by issuing a parade permit, so reinforces their claim, is a GOOD thing. That means it will stay a County road (with us doing the maintenance) -- and not turn into some other type of road designation that could go away in the future.

If you have a choice as to when to use the trail, and you know the *rules*, I suggest planning a trip for when you won't have a conflict. Heck, who wants to worry about being thrown out of camp or off the trail when you're up there to relax and have fun?

Del

Del,

I'll look for the link to the county record where the permit was posted. I tripped across it once looking for something else.

anyway, IIRC, they only have exclusive use permit from 6:00am to 12 midnight. I don't recall the days but I don't remember it being two weeks.

but, don't take my word on it. If you really want to *know* ask for a copy of the permit.

Cheers.

- Dan

Last years meeting was July 9th, so I'm gonna assume they haven't met to approve this year yet.
