Campfire permits
I was wondering if someone knew if there was a place that I could get a permit online or if I have to go into an forest service office. What are the requirements for the permits? (age, location, etc)
Thanks, Kirk |

We stopped at the Info booth on Ice House on the way up to the Con. All that is needed is a license. I have a feeling it's going to be a short season for campfires.

I was hoping to get one the the weekend of the 20th. Do you have to pay for them or just pickup the form, fill it out and carry it with you? Or do you actually have to turn it into someone?

The permit you'll get in the Sierras is good from Bakersfield to the Oregon border.
I was talking to the ranger in the Placerville station about restrictions. He's thinking it's likely full restrictions will be in place by the end of June. ![]() Paul

![]() You should check in with the ranger as you head up but I would guess that you would be able to use a portable propane bbq for cooking. That's what I use when the resitrictions are in place. Good luck and have fun!

Get caught, pay the fine......
Although I have been camping in the Sierras for 35 years and I have never been asked to show a campfire permit to anyone. Have always had one though.

The purpose of a campfire permit is for the Ranger or agency rep to look you in the eye and tell you to be safe, have a shovel nearby and a fire extinguisher, and of course, to obey fire restrictions.
so if in doubt, have: 1. Shovel nearby. 2. Fire Extinguisher sitting close at hand. 3. and a cleared area (3feet) around your fire. Worst case, with these items handy and a good attitude, you should not get a ticket or even much of a butt-chewing. BUT, I always tell folks to GET A PERMIT> It's free. Del

Question for anyone that knows. On the sign on Icehouse road, shortly after you turn off highway 50, it lists the fire danger and something called "sale" warning/danger/something. What does this "sale" rating mean?
thanks, Fred |

It's most likely a Timber Management Sale (logging). Watch out for trucks entering the highway and going slow.
Tree falling taking place in a couple areas up there. Del
