Official Pett Toilet Experience Thread

I'm not sure how many reports Del is getting on the toilets. So I figured I'd make it easy for everyone to give a report.

I've been using mine for a while now.
No mess no more squating no more digging.

I like the fact that I can set this thing up in the shade so I have a great view and I sit and do my business.

Thanks Monkeyboy for starting this thread. Good idea.

Don't forget also, that we have official feedback forms that we need to fill out at the end of the wheeling season and get them to me (for grant money purposes and government needs).

Melissa Monroe has the forms or I can email them to you (Exel spreadsheet). This is important, as I need them back (the forms) so we can hopefully buy some more to give out.

Also, visit my web site for tips and tricks on using the Pett. Especially if you want to get multiple uses out of one bag -- which is quite easy if you do it right.

www.delalbright.com/ follow the Rubicon Trail links; then Trail Sanitation.

thanks to all who are packing it out.

I started to use them this season and so far they are great. I have a folding seat already that I used to use with a shovel. I now buy just the PEET bags and use them with my existing seat.

In actual use I find them equal or even easier/nicer than my old method. Only issue is that they are not truely odor free when transported inside a rig like a 4Runner. I am going to pick up a "diaper caddy" at Target today and try that out next week on a trip to Deer Valley.

Chardog, you might be mixing too much paper with the chems. If you use them multiple times, be sure there's very little or NO paper barrier between uses. This prevents the chems from doing their job. If they (chems) have access to all the product, I've found little or no smell left.

I've used the packaging bag for the used paper rather than mix it in with the main bag IF I plan to use the bag multiple times.

Just a thought....

Del
ps. but a diaper caddy or small rubber maid tub is always a good idea.....

It's tough enough to handle the Pirate camp twice. On Memorial Day and on the 4th we had ours up and everyone has TOO much fun using it. Del, could you e-mail me the form to fill out?

yup it is awesome, so much better then trying to hover, not get any in your shoes and swat away all the mosquitos at once We have used it on 3 trips now, and everyone loves it. I even got some reading done last week

Feedback

Our club has used it on three trips. Snow Patrol, our SUV run, and a recent run on the Con.

Everyone's very positive, and love's the conveinence, however we have a few suggestions.

The bag should have a line printed either on the inside or outside like a "fill" line. With the SUV run, we over filled three bags - makes it hard to keep them from leaking.

Second would be a flap in the top of the tent to shue flys out. I think next trip I'll bring a fly strip - well okay maybe a case of fly sticks.

Thanks to El Dorado and the OHV fund for making these possible.

Del,

Thanks for the tips. I'm adding a better transport container this trip. Should be fine that way since it was just a slight odor anyway.

I brought one on the trail last weekend, 7/12-7/13. Worked great. It's nice to be able to take your time, you know?

My experience was that the bags are not stinkproof. But hey.

West Marine carries the PETT toilet and the 24-count box of PETT bags.

Morgan,
Be sure to read the stuff on my web site about how to BEST use the bags and the poo powder. I think you'll find less smell if you do it a certain way. I don't have smell problems -- but then again, I guess that means my *%^& don't stink???
Oh, that was tacky. I take that back.
