White Flowers taking over Spider Lake?
Our group just got back from our mid-week trip to Spider Lake. I was pleased to see how clean the trail was but extremely upset to see all the White Flowers around Spider Lake. You can't walk through the bush without having to step around them! There everywhere
I know this area was picked clean last October during the Clean-up because many of us worked this area and picked it clean!I know I'm "preaching to the choir" here, but this is a REAL PROBLEM! I don't know how we can stop this but we need to do something and do it fast! Thoughts: The Pett toilet is a great camp tool. I won't hit the trail without it! I wish everyone would carry one in their rig! Install signage at the trail head (Loon, Wentworth and McKinstry) educating users as to the proper method of dealing with our waste. We carry zip-lock bags that my girls use for their "flowers" after their trail-side stops Again, looks like education is the key! Isn't it always

I got back yesterday from Buck Island and there were many there too. Some on the edge of the trail. I investigated several and found only TP no poo. Since boys don't wipe, we can assume it is the other sex? I gathered some and burned them right in the trail, lower fire danger, and stamped and buried em.
Education is the key here. Peer pressure is good too, but you gotta catch them.

I started my daughter on bringing back and putting it in the garbage sack when she was about 2. I don't think I'll show her the burning it trick for a while.
Although to teach her to throw it on the fire may not be too bad, she's 7 now.

WhiteFlowers on the trail:
Let's don't be angry over how we've been doing our business all these years, folks. A LOT has changed in the past year or three, and many of us have long standing habits that are not easily changed overnight. It's a matter of habit. I dont get angry with folks who are doing something we now consider *wrong* but are not malicious about it. I try to educate them. That's where we are now. Education and habit changing. A lot of folks are just finding out that what they've been doing for ALL these many years, don't work today. So we learn some patience; we educate our fellow users; we help folks find simple solutions; we do whatever it takes to win over the crowd that still thinks it's ok to do anything they want on our trails. Because if we don't keep trying, we will loose our access. Del
