Legal part of the trail!!!

Is the bypass trail out of Ellis Creek a legal part of the trail? I have told a few people whom were broke down but rolling or being towed about it. However, before I send anyone else that way, I would like to know if it an “Official Part of the trail”?

Both ends of that (McKinstry?) are in El Do County. I saw them on the map marked by the consulting firm hired by the county. The rest 90 percent is in Placer County. They have not addressed it yet. That I know of.

If you're talking about the McKinstry road/trail, as it's nick named, coming out of Ellis (and not going to the slabs, and not going Wentworth), then here's the deal:

it's not part of the rubicon trail or the Ellis Creek OHV trail.
it's a forest road and part of the McKinstry Forest/Fire road.
it's legal to use.

Hope this helps, Del

It goes from the Ellis Creek Junction, north to McKinstry Lake and then back south west where it joins the Wentworth route near Gerle Creek.

Its a 2wd road, with a few small rocks here and there.
Not much of a 'trail' , a good route to 'limp out' on , if
someone is partially broke, or is being towed out.
Pavement only about a mile or two from Ellis.

I tried to limp out that way once, so many spurs I got lost and turned around I ran across some kids in a new 4door jeep waggy, they were to drunk to remember there way back, so they were no help

I don't know if it's new, or I just never noticed it before, but there is a sign now... On the way out, on the right hand side.

Says:

Loon Lake <--
McKinstry -->

It's right after Ellis Creek

I'd better go up in a few weeks and check it out again just to make sure.
