Dynomite on the 'Con?!?

Just got back from the Loon Lake staging area. While I was on the Slab there taking some photos I heard several large booms coming from the entrance area.

Is there work going on up there or should I report this to the necessary people? Oh, who are the necessary people?

Thanks

Justin

We can hear the military practicing their terrorist annihalation in NV. from G'town. (bombing runs on target ranges) We are another 50 miles from loon and can still hear it, was it that? It is much louder in the high country.

Not sure,

I saw two red jeeps pass me early in the morning and heard a large blast about 20min or so later. Then maybe 15min later or so another one and then another maybe 5min later.

That was it, I was there for a good hour and never heard or saw anything else.

The gents in the Jeeps weren't the friendliest of people but that doesn't mean a damn thing.

I waved down a Ranger and the lady said she wasn't sure of any work going on or not.

There werent any work trucks in sight, or at least I could see. I wanted to go further but figured it wasn't the brightest idea without a winch or another ride to follow.

If del wants to PM me I will take it up with him, I don't want to tuen this into a finger pointing match if it doesn't need to be.

Is that what that is? I have heard that a number of times up there. Man, when they are practicing, they SPEND quite a bit!

I don't think this is a problem guys. I'm up there a lot (lately).
It could be SMUD doing some flume work. IT could be hunters. It could be other blasting. IT could be the Army guys over in NV like Scott mentioned. But I've seen no indication of this being a Rubicon thing.

Thanks tho....this is how we stay on top of OUR trail.

Possibly could have been one of these... I found this over close to little sluice today (sunday)... It worries me to know that someone is honing their PIPEBOMB skills on the Rubicon.
This apparently wasn't their best effort due to the amount of pipe still intact. There is a big hole in the side and both ends are blown out however so I imagine it was pretty loud...

Cragrat and I found the Rems of another one in a fire pit we dug out on the far end of the slabs bordering Loon near where the "bench" seat is...wasn't fully exploded either, but it was from galvanized and probably not charged enough (speculation only of course)

The Sheriff has asked me to let you know that they want us to turn these over to them, with a good description of where you got them; even digi photos of the site if you can. They plan to start looking into these things pretty close.

Heck, if you feel up to it, handle it like evidence. Photo it in place, gps the site; use tongs or gloves or whatever to pick it up and put it in a zip lock or something to try to preserve the finger prints. Then turn it over to the Sheriff in Pville or the USFS official.

BUT BUT BUT don't pick one up if you're not SURE it's done being a boom.

Back when I spent my summers at Schlein Ranger station, we used to hear sonic booms now and them from Jets passing overhead. No idea where the airport is but we saw em and heard em.

That said... its probably pipe bombs or Hunters though.

Hey is that steel or PVC I cant make it out. A friend of mine(a big yellow and green Suburban hard to miss) just got back from the'con with something like that shoved under the backside of his rear bumper. It was made of PVC though it was blown out at the top cap part. We were thinking it was like a little doodad somone kept bolts or C-clips or something in and dropped it. I'll call him tomarrow and see if he still has it.
