Got to the bottom of walker hill ,big snow drifts got some cool pics . Snow was slushy(greasy) slabs sucked going out. Beautiful up there right now. More and more impressed with these 41.5 pbr radials.

Was wondering whose tracks those were. Mine were on top of yours in the bowl when you came out. Greasy, slushy, and poor traction. Unless we get more snow, it's gonna be early morning or late at night in order to make much progress.

April 1st:

First dam completely exposed.

Between dams compacted fairly well but due to warm temps many soft spots if out of track.

Second dam mostly exposed but some snow left to left of dam as you go in.

Downhill off second dam leaning fairly well downhill. Be very careful here, snow is soft and slippery. Traveling up dam and turn is a need for caution.

Snow bridge after kiosk collapsed on a couple of rigs coming out after me. I would imagine all gone by this weekend.

Climb to hot rock mostly exposed.

After Hot Rock the track is less traveled and less compacted. Lots of tree wells and holes. The snow is soft and melting fast.

Thanks to Andrew for the help coming out, great timing and saved me a walk to the next winch point. Beers on me next time I see you.

Thanks again.

Tim.

Take a look at the above pic with Tim and his sled...now subtract a foot of snow off the top and 18 inches from each side by the railing. That's what it looked like today and going across was an hour of work, some winching and shoveling. You end up straddling the snow and as you winch yourself forward it tries to drop you into the rail. It will be pretty sketchy getting across the bridge for the next week or two.

Thanks for the update guys!

We are planning a run at the end of this month (just a partial run going in/out from Loon). How does the trail look like leading up to Soup Bowl? Have any vehicles made the trek yet?

Only one in current conditions...Desmond Caravella and Scott Johnston in Desmond's stretched Toyota on 49's built for snow. They went that far yesterday.

By the end of the month I expect to be going that far with no problems on 40's.

I believe that was March 30th or 31st 2012...saw you guys that morning.

Since then Desmond has upgraded the front end to a hybrid 14 bolt with Reid outers and 40 spline axles and gone from the 46" Baja claws in the video to new 49" Iroks. Watched the rig in action on Tuesday, it's more capable than ever. Born for snow.

Went as far as the picnic table on far side of Little Sluice this Saturday. Because of the shadowing, etc. a decent amount of snow on the drop section after that and figured once down might take too much effort to get back up. Zero snow on the bridge. Smallest tire was a 35" and he had to be pulled out of drifts 2 or 3 times.

When is it expected to be fully passable for 35s? End of May?

You talking west side of the trail or all the way to Tahoe? From Loon or Wentworth to Observation will be passable on 35's by the middle of May most likely, maybe sooner. Tahoe side by early June I'm guessing.

Any update on the trail status? Loon lake to Tahoe exit? I'm curious, the last post indicated its passable from Loon to Constitution.. So does that mean you can't exit to Tahoe and you have to turn around and drive back out via Loon lake?

For now, yes. I think it will be passable in a week or two.

I am heading down there tonight,
Going to hit Rubicon and Fordyce.
Might have to go to the Meadow side of Fordyce. Flow rates are a little high.
