Me and some friends are going up to the con this coming wednesday and camping till thursday, april 7th and 8th. Do you guys think it still might be closed at the loon lake entrance and we might have to go wentworth springs? I wonder if it will be snow patches and just mud or what? Anyone else wanna go we can hook up.

Not sure if it will be plowed yet but there will still be a good amount of snow on the trail.

Our agreement is to stay off the Loon Lake dam area until SMUD plows the County road, which should be happening today.
Matt Thresher keeps us posted on SMUD plowing and snow conditions. Del

I was up by off hwy 20 and 80 yesterday about 5500 feet. 2 weeks ago there was about about 2 + feet of snow and it pretty much all melted in 2 weeks !!!. there was some patches here and there. I was amazed on how fast it melted.

I talked to Jim over at Inchworm and they made it all the way to the springs last weekend. He said it was 2 - 3 feet deep thou. Big tires make a difference he had something like 38 x 14 dick cepecks on his rig. I wouldn't recommend trying this unless you are extremely prepared and go with people that know how to snow wheel. Also he ran beadlocks ( and ran them like 2 psi or something ) So the tires just floated on top of the snow.

I drove to Loon Lake today to see if it was plowed yet. It looks as if they are in the process of plowing(snow blower) it. It is plowed past the first damn but stops about a mile and a half from the spillway. I did see SMUD trucks on the way up there when I was coming down so I assume they were going to continue the rest of the way. Hope this helps.
BTW: I forgot my camera but Loon is still frozen over.

thank you for posting that info. It is nice to have eyes up there. Do you think springs is reachable from wentworth?? Whats the fastest way to wentworth?? ice house or another way ? is the trail head hard to find if you have not been that way ? And Disco if I ever meet you on the trail I owe you a cold one just for posting updates and road info.Keep up the good work. Name your poison I'll bring it to Rubithon. I hear the bar is under the supervision of MTA this year not Nevada Boys

Not a problem on the info.
A couple quick questions, how much snow wheelin do you do? How well are you set up? If you have never been in thru Wentworth this may not be the best time of year to go. You have got to really know what you're doing this time of year. ![]() Oh yeah, I'll drink most anything but I do like Vodka. ![]() And as for beer, as long as it's not Coors.

Stoly and 7 for me to Disco. I been couple of times to Pilsbury all the way over Hull Mtn. . Got denied going all the way earlier this year. Maybe 2-3 feet and deeper at the worst spots. . Set up SOA FJ40 , 307 , sm420 , arb's , 36 x 14.5 x15 , saginaw , SR , alcans , heater from fj60 mounted under glove , soft top , wipers work 2 speeds , defrost works , 8274 w/ rec. gear , hi-lift , cb , CO2 , spares , lots of coffee. Not much camping in snow though. Currently trying to come up with ideas to lighten cruiser..
