dates open??

In general what months of the year are open to traveling the rubicon? are less people traveling in the fall and early spring? My buddies and I are planning a trip and we have flexible scheduals and just wana run it with out a butt load of people out there. With its popularity that may be near impossible i guess. thanks guys

Stay away from these Dates

Memorial weekend 5-27 through the 31st
July 4th 7-2 though 7-5
and jeepers Jamboo ( not sure on those dates but chech the calendar here, I'm sure it's posted or just check there site )

Also you would want to avoid almost all weekends during the summer.. If you want to hit the trail with nice warm weather durning the day and night and little traffic. I would shoot for June- July on a weekday like Monday or Tuesday starting from Loon Lake ( georgetown ) side

To answer your questions about sping and fall wheeling,

Spring wheelin can be kinda nasty due to large amounts of snow. Just keep and eye on the board and people usually post when it's passable.

As for the fall, it's generally good wheelin but there are still plenty of people up there. Mid-week is your best bet at any time of year.

I talked to Jim over at Inchworm and they made it all the way to the springs last weekend. He said it was 2 - 3 feet deep thou. Big tires make a difference he had something like 38 x 14 dick cepecks on his rig.

I wouldn't recommend trying this unless you are extremely prepared and go with people that know how to snow wheel.

The Rubicon Trail is a county road and it has always been necessary to have either a license plate or green sticker to run this trail.

You can find more on the rules on the Rubicon Trail Home Page:

Local kid fest? We'll I'm not a local and certainly not a kid and I'll be there for sure

New rule? Same rules as always. Just getting inforced.

Tube chassis? Very small percentage of the rigs are buggies. Mostly just purpose built rock rigs

If you don't like crowds, stay away on the weekends that Chopperman mentioned.

I happen to love Memorial Day weekend on the 'Con! I get to see many old friends and stretch my legs after the long winter and enjoy some great wheelin'

It isn't the "kids" who can afford this equipment...It is generally full grown adults with kids and a mortage and a good paying career!
