The original poster says the Cherokee on 35s had trouble pushing through the snow. And they've had a foot fall since then.

Definitely good news.

Are they planning on trying to go get them out? I was just up in our hills at 5k feet and it was coming down. Those rigs are going to be buried in no time.

Request Two snowbound rigs on Rubicon

The recovery effort is scheduled for Fri at 10am in Tahoma. It's being organized on the Reno4x4 forum.

Please get in touch with Doug Hiemstra on that forum if you can help out.

I was hoping they would recover the rigs. Appears the snow was too deep and they had to turn back. wow. I guess the rigs will be buried for a while.

Update:

I made it to Tahoma about 10am. Met Doug and his son Emit and began airing down. After driving for 4-1/2 hours I was ready to wheel. Emit hopped in with me, leaving Doug to wait for rest of his party to show. I gave Emit my camera and here are his pics.

First: Tahoe staging, area you can see the sign behind my Willys, about 3-1/2' of good snow.

Second: just short of McKinney Lake, the sun came out and warmed things up and stopped us. Slid out of the Willys and dropped in nearly up to my waist in the snow, the Willys was up to the frame.

About 1:30 Jim caught up in his CJ-7 V-8 with 42's. He powered up a small hill for 45 minutes but low on gas he pulled over and I crawled on a short distance, gave up and turned around.

I finally got to meet everybody at McKinney Rd, like always a good group of guys.

Great effort, Tim. All this rain has really made the snow like concrete, maybe heavier. Too bad Emerald Bay was closed, that's a long way around.

Unless something changes....those rigs may be there for a long time. I was there Dec 30 and it changed big time to Tim's pictures.

My buddy Jeff in Tahoma owns my ATV and snow tracks, but having been up there many times, there is a section after the turn to Rubicon about 1/4-1/2 mile in that is treacherous. The creek is far below you on the left and on your right is a very steep hill. The snow slides off the hill, down to the creek and the road vanishes...major league off camber. If nobody compacts that snow on the road and re-establishes the road bed, your only hope is going in Barker Pass to get to the 2nd rig.

And another 4-6 feet in the forecast through thursday. That sidehill section you mention is the limiting factor. You can go around it on a sled, but that doesn't get the rig out.

at least these weather patterns are changing from what they were a few days ago. Looks like Fri/Sat/sun/mon might clear up in South Lake
