York air compressor,4l60e, klune V 2.28, 5.0 Atlas, 14b front steer axle with 40 spline shafts/arb, CTMs, Rear 30 spline 14b/arb. 5.38 gears, Wilwood brakes, hydro boost, full hyd steering, 3 link front, 4 link rear, firestone air spring suspension/ automatic leveling with driver override modes ( AiRock system adapted from a TJ), Double beadlocks with 49" iroks, FOA bypass shocks, 16"+ vertical suspension travel, custom sway bars. Originally a 1989 Std cab Hilux with an extracab welded on later, wheelbase about 120", width 98" Empty weight with snowtires/ tools full fluids 5800-6000 lbs. I have tried to reduce the weight and removed about 200 lbs from the rig in the last 5 years. The big tires/ wheels/ axles weights sure add up fast though.

Yes I got as far as the Ellis creek Bridge/ Facilities. BIG caverns on trail just 50' east. And to the west I got to within 500' of the upper part of Post Pile. Same thing--- BIG caverns. Running solo I thought it was very wise to not attempt any of those monster holes/obstacles. Now if I was with Cruzila or Jim Job it would have been VERY tempting!!!

Yes the " facilities" at Ellis are under at least 10'-12' of snow. I think there are a couple of pictures already posted. If you look closely you may see the " bump" in the snow.

Had to winch out. Used over 200' of rope. 110' on the winch drum +100' extra rope + 30' strap. Yes you will need it in these conditions! No close by anchor points.

Norfolk n Way !!

Excellent point/tip:
1) Need chit load more line for snow outing.

I play in Idaho snow and I thought a total of 90' of various lines was enough.

Yes it does work in the snow. I've had one for about 12 years now. Used it on the Rubicon last weekend.

Awesome!

I was just on their website.

They have a 16,000lb rated one now. Need to put this on my 'need' list.

It varies so much year to year hard to say. This year things really got going in mid November and from what we are seeing we may have our tires in the white stuff till June

what is the trick to switching lines? Ie, once you real in that first 100' what do you anchor the rig to while pulling the winch line back out to re-hook up?

I've done a 400' recovery with multiple lines but we had 3 winches to work with so holding the rig while lines were reset wasn't a problem. was on a 60* slope so got interesting

The rig is in soft snow, which holds the rig in place while the line is switched/ attach points changed.

Trail has been made to the base of Walker Hill. With that said, there is rig swallowing holes along the way. Travel past Ellis Creek bridge is an adventure. Be prepared to winch, dig, work etc etc.

Holy smokes Toyrocs, nice job. I was thinking of trying to see about getting to WWS campgrounds and thought that'd be a task and you're at Ellis.

What are the holes from?

Just deeper pockets of snow?
