My tow rig was broken into and a bunch of stuff was stolen out of the backseat (I had some brand new tools from craftsman! ) at the Indian springs campground staging area.. also known as "near the poopers at the beginning of fordyce"
First off, the Nevada County Sheriffs Deputy that I spoke with was VERY cool to work with. When I asked him about a safe place to park my trailer, he offered up his office, and was even willing to let me drive my very street illegal jeep (no windshield, tires way past body, tags showing 2 months expired, but paid), back to the trailhead, and said he would give me a printout saying my registration was paid, I just didn't have the tags, and gave me his biz card to give to any cop who pulled me over, to help me try to talk my way out of it. I was really hoping for a police escort though
Anyway, he said that lately he's been seeing a lot of similar thefts by russian/eukranian immigrants targetting the areas weekend warrior types (four wheelers, cross country skiers, hikers, snow mobilers, etc). The reason he mentioned it was because we mentioned that the night my truck was broken into we had heard some eastern europeans on the CB (channel 32 for anyone who cares).
I sort of had a "its not going to happen to me" attitude, so I know that this isn't the fordyce section, but it seems like a good reminder to keep the back seat of your truck COMPLETELY empty when you are going to park in an isolated area for a weekend. Why make your vehicle a target?
And if you see any hoodlums trying to sell a brand new craftsman 8" bench grinder.... make sure you don't pay more than $60, cos thats all I paid :flipoff2:
that's exactly why we always park the tow rigs at the Cisco Grove campground. Pay $5 a day and don't worry about your stuff getting jacked when you are gone

Nope. Have to leave it there, park at Cisco, and figure a way back. Hopefully someone with you has a streetable rig. Even heading in the committee road is a street legal drive to get to the dirt.
You can go in the committee trail (it is the road across from the mini mart at the Cisco Grove campgrounds) which connects to the trail between winch hills 2 and 3. Other then that you do have to hit the pavement for one exit.

Thanks Guys... I'll do that next time... but it still serves a good reminder in general to keep extra crap out of sight in your tow rig.. now point in making yourself a target.

Thats what I've been doing
You can also ask the people in the gas station to park at the bottom of the hill. They have a chain across the road going down and they watch them for you

Thats the best way to do it. Just don't try and go int othe camp ground without a paper pass. they will chase you down on there little golf cart and start yelling at you. (ask me how i know) It was actually pretty funny to say the least. I had to get a pass to be in the campground for 5 minutes. /they almost made me pay for a day pass. But i had alreayd paid for the parking so i was let in. Took more time for me to get in then to be in there. If you want a challenge, try to go in the campground without being fallowed.
those who steal from people in the mountains will be stricken down with great vengence. No, really though, I truely believe it willl catch up to them in the worst way.

I just called the lady to ask her about arriving late tonight, and she was friendly and helpful. Thanks for the suggestion
P.S. This will be the third time I"ve tried to make fordyce this summer.. the first time someone rear ended my truck and trailer making it undriveable for a while, the second time someone broke into my truck (this thread), third times either a charm or a bitch... If you see me broken or dead on the side of the trail, please stop to help, or at least call me an idiot for fucking with fate :flipoff2:
If something bad happens this time, I give up, and I am destined to never do fordyce.
