The Work Weekends for FOTR are:
June 24-25
July 22-23
Aug. 19-20 : this is our BIG work weekend here (August); but there is some talk about trying to move it. I'm not sure we can at this point; but we're trying to pin things down.

August 20th we're partying at Robb's Resort. Band and buffet, reduced camping rates. Sign up on the form (I had form problems for a couple weeks and didn't know it. So sign up again even if you already signed up.

Potato Patch to the Mud Hole (and maybe a re-route)

Goals: Prevent further erosion and illegal bypasses

Objectives:
Potato Patch
Clear drains (under “dike” cobble road?)
o FS leads this
o Might need to wait until fully drained

Build up corner of the old mud hole
o Use larger boulders

Cover exposed dirt a the top of the Potato Patch
o Use some boulders on hand
o Bring in smaller cobble
o Possibly narrow trail
o Don’t make it any harder, don’t make it any easier

Harden the trail borders in the area
o Stack boulders
o Place signs
o Use logs

Crews of four
1. Build corner of wetlands, cover exposed dirt, harden borders
2. Rock loaders and rock haulers
3. FS personnel to clear drains

Mud Hole
Create a drain from the mud hole
o trench from low side
o use straw bails to filter water
o Place boulders to break up water flow

Fill the hole with 1 ½’- 2’ of rock
o Supplied by Placer County
o Moved by the Hi-Lo’s
o Cover bottom of hole at a minimum

Block the bypass
o Use logs
o Post signs

Harden the trail borders in the area
o Use logs
o Place signs

Crews of four
1. Dig drain for mud hole
2. Block bypasses, harden edges
3. Rock loaders and rock haulers
4. Fill hole with rock

Re-Route
Block current trail (water hole)
o Current trail is 2’-3’ deep
o Hole never drains

Choose one bypass for legal trail
o Three to choose from
o Block other bypasses

Harden the trail borders in the area
o Logs
o Signs

Crews of four
1. Block existing trail
2. Choose route of the trail
3. Harden edges of the trail

I hate how Word doesn't copy and paste well in to this forum.

The Forest Service will have to sign off on all of this project. The trail here is a forest trail. I will be in touch as soon as my contact gets re-hired for the season.

I'm hoping Placer County will supply the rock to fill the mud hole.

Our work weekends are over (for now -- unless we have an emergency or last minute project). Thank you to everyone who made 2006 a huge success. We'll have some final numbers (hours and work done) later.

Thanks,
Del and all of FOTR
