So is it not ok to park at the trail head at Loon Lake???, (the gravel parking area “the staging area”). I Would been leaving a Truck and trailer,ok? I have done it the past two years.
If not where is the Chalet where people said you can park.
Thanks
Like jiMMy said, you can park at the bottom of the spillway and you can also park in the gravel lot up by the Chalet. If you park along the paved road, make sure you park in a spot wide enough so that your tires are completely off the pavement.
PARKING BY THE ROADThe problem is that folks have not been exercising it... so the County is putting more structure down, as in signs. By the end of June, there will be signs up top defining where it is legal to park, and where not. Sadly, our hobby brough this on itself. PARKING BY THE BASE OF THE DAM
This is not currently in scope for change, but please don't be stupid. Destruction of vegetation could get it closed... and some of the parking that I have seen makes it hard to pack vehicles in. If you are the first few tow wagons and trailers in place, it may feel like there's all the room in the world, but by the end of most weekends, this area will be jam-packed... please park to maximize usage.
PARKING BY THE CHALET
The Forest Service is willing for us to use the gravel pad next to the Chalet as long as we don't block access to the helipad. Block it, and we lose access -- it is that simple. The same comments apply about parking to maximize usage.
ENFORCEMENT
The County is going to be getting serious about enforcing parking after the signs go up, and the Forest Service is already serious about it, as folks who got tickets last year can attest.
To this, I'd like to suggest a peer enforcement policy, mostly for the 'don't be stupid, park to maximize usage thought. If you see somebody parked haphazardly, blocking off three spots, post up a picture! While they may not be ticketable, they deserve some raspberries from the folks they parked out (or parked in -- I have seen that before, as well!).
One thing about the lot next to the Chalet, if you block the Helipad, don't expect to see your rig there when you get out. The FS is serious about towing there.

Getting your rig out of impound is only the beginning --Rich Platt made it clear during the field trip that virtually any slip (such as parking in the helipad) would merit closure of the Chalet overflow parking. If anybody gets us closed out of that parking, word is gonna get out as to who blew it, and they can expect a limitless ration of hell for it. :mad3:
That's not what was discussed on the Friday field trip, and the DOT is charged with implementing the parking, while LEO just enforces it. Per DOT, their intent is to maintain the flow of traffic, reduce user conflict, and ensure emergency vehicle access. IMHO, that doesn't mean losing all parking on the road.
I'm not sure where to put this, so I guess here is as good a place as any. USFS clarified their stance on Chalet parking:
* in summer, Chalet renters have exclusive rights to use the paved parking area around the Chalet. In other words, if you are not renting the Chalet, you can be ticketed and towed.
* winter use is less defined, but the USFS prioritizes parking here for non-motorized users
Note that the gravel overflow lot (a.k.a. Quarry and Helipad) has different guidelines, as discussed above.
Where can you leave a vechicle on the Tahoe side? I have a friend that is planning to go on a trip, but he tows his rig. The rest of the group will be going all the way through. We're talking about setting up a shuttle and leaving his truck on the Tahoe side. Is there a safe, legal place we can leave his truck?
We have been staging at the bottom for as long as I can remeber , no probs... use common sense
