When I applied for my membership a year ago I called it was a 3 min phone call, she was vary helpfull and all I had to weight for was paperwork to get sent to me and send it back. As said before vary cheap insurance and piece of mind. Last Hollister trip I was on I noticed a CalStar chopper sitting ready to go so they are defiantly in that area as well.

Check out the website. My understanding is the chopper covers a 100 mile radius. There may be a location close to you.

This thread got me thinking about the possibility of needing a flight from a remote area and researching it further. CalStar still looks a little to restricted for the areas I travel in.

I hope since CalStar is the thread title I won't piss anyone off by adding some more info about other providers...... I am just looking for a wider area without spending hundreds on multiple memberships.

I have been looking at different providers over the years always hoping to find a network that would provide us coverage in at least CA, OR, WY, and Northwestern NV where we wheel and ride. I never found just one or two till now.....

Cal-Ore Life FlightCal-Ore Life Flight Aero Medical Team

And their partners/network:https://www.airmedcarenetwork.com/

Anyone have a better option?

What about the SPOT extraction insurance? Anyone have any experience with a claim there? I have it, but have been lucky enough not to need it!

Tony, I don't know about SPOT insurance. I have a friend who has SPOT (he rides alone a lot), but obviously never used the insurance.

CALSTAR is mentioned here in the Rubicon Thread, because the likelihood you need an air lift on the Con, it will be CalStar is very high. CHP might be the other, and that would be free. I wish there was more reciprocation, for the reasons you state.

Guys....someone was flown out of the Jamboree....not life threatening, but definitely needed immediate medical attention......he was not a member of CalStar...hopefully his insurance covers it....but why risk it.

I will call Calstar on our member count....because yes..after 150 I believe, it goes down to $30.

I don't know where it was....it was a compound fracture of the finger. So if that was the injury, that's the fella.

(sorry I missed this)

We are just 2 members over 150. So you were probably just under 150 when you paid.

I too have CalStar and rave about it. Be aware they are not the only show in town and don't have reciprocity with all agencies, REACH, specifically. REACH doesn't come to the Rubicon but are very common through out the central valley and along the northern coast and they too offer insurance. I personally have both and would recommend the same for you

I've considered it for years. Went ahead and signed the family up. $30 is inexpensive precaution.

You're welcome!!

So glad to hear we're still over 150.

There's been at least 10 helo rides since I started pushing CalStar and those are 10 people that did not expect to ever need one.

Since they ask for Spouse and dependents it looks like this group rate covers the entire family....?
