Weather...What's up? Conditions pics?? - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

It was 61 degrees in Truckee yesterday. It is January 25th right? We have hardly any snow on the ground and none in the forcast for the next 10 days. Maybe global warming is taking affect...who knows. Snow wheeling on the con hasn't been anything like recent years although we've had drought years like this before. Its been cold...very cold at times. But I bet the deepest snow is just 3 feet high and crossing the entire trail is probably doable for most rigs who are properly prepared. Well...Walker Hill might be a bit interesting. Anyone have some recent picture from the trail? Post up?

A lot of ice up there... well last weekend when it was still super cold.

We may be heading up to the `con Saturday or Sunday this coming week... will report back!

Two weeks ago it was below zero with 30 MPH winds. It has been mild since in relation. Any new reports from Wentworth???

Sugar snow that doesn't pack well up here. Hopefully get back out there soon after I get a new r&p in the rear.

Wow! It's scary how little snow is up there

Unless the weather changes dramatically in the next 2 months, we're in for a VERY dry summer!

Yeah...getting to Buck is doable. You can't say that very often in late January.

For the casual reader and uninformed....

If anyone does go...go prepared and expect the worst. Most of the people viewing here have been around the block a few times and then some. If you've never snow wheeled, don't start by heading to Buck right now. Its an enviting trip, but for the inexperienced and unprepared it could be your last trip. It is winter after all and things can change quick. Plus, reading in the papers that people had to be rescued looks bad and can lead to closures...

It appears as though the above group turned around just shy of wws/ellis intersection, as far as I could tell from the pics.

I'll be in a group of 4 rigs camping at Ellis Saturday night. Leaving blacktop around 11am and driving back out the same way on Sunday. The game is on the radio.
