Does'nt the dead end trail that splits off just before old sluice/slab entrance go that way. IIRC it is refered to as hell hole, devils hole, etc... It has been blocked for a year or 2.

Yup, I've always referred to it as lost trail, but it does go across RTP property for a fair distance before it is on RTF property. a VERY difficult ride back out too.

I remember very clearly back at the meeting in placerville, signing on to help form the non profit. THIS was type of announcement that made that signature, the time and the money worth it all. Thanks to every person who has done the same and the board members over the years who helped drive it.

I am glad to hear such enthusiasm!!

I have been internet challenged for the last few days and it will go on for a few more. I guess that is the price for living in God's country.

RTF is dedicated to using this property responsibly and will form a full plan of attack for gaining access and ultimately developing areas for use. Primarily, and I guess soley, we will be setting up camping as opposed to rock courses. We want to start slow and do the right thing with all the watchful eyes out there. There is a plan to have a committee form to reveiw the plan and decide use etc. This will be an ongoing thing for the next few years to figure it out, get it built and do it right. This winter will be busy for sure because we do not have to be up there to do the paper work part of planning.

Stay tuned, Scott

ps this will take patience, lots of it lol

Very good to hear this!

We're a long way away, but East Coast folks are very appreciative, and hope to make it out to ride the Con in the next few years. Glad to know that things are going forward to preserve it.

Fight the seasonal closure like hell. That's the way it always starts, and then it doesn't open back up. We've lost our best place, Tellico, possibly forever. Even while the appeals and lawsuits have begun, the forest service has graded major portions of the trails to smooth road.

Keep up the fight!

Scott, we've had some side email conversations on this topic in general. I think it's the single most exciting thing RTF can do, and it makes me want to buy more tacos, more tickets and more black tie auctions. I know I can't be alone.

Even a little win, like signs telling people how to hike there, would keep the fire burning..

Fantastic news! Like others, I will be watching to see how I can help with the new land or existing sections of the trail.

Property access

In the 2009-2010 OHV Grants program, the Eldorado NF received monies for
"Planning - Rubicon Trail Dispersed Use",

http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/pages/1140/f...NF%20Plann.pdf

RTF should work with the NF to plan for access routes to the property.

Ride on

RTF Land

Great work and unbelievable news. Is the land exempt from property taxes?
I don't believe so. Either way, time to up the donations for the improvements and general fund.

Unfortunately, non-profit does not mean all tax exempt. We do file with the IRS and the FTB and will be subject to tax for property. Because we are a business, it would be true for any assets of the company. Equipment, office and otherwise, real property etc etc.

Stay tuned, we have more exciting stuff planned!!

You'd think the public would have access by now. I thought that was Mark Smiths wishes. Seems like too many people want to be king of the mountain, and or control property that doesn't belong to them. What's taking so long?

AGREED! I said from day one there is to much political BS hoops to jump through when the end result doesn't change except the time taken. Quit playing "nice" and conforming and make shit happen, otherwise all the money spent on the property is wasted money, mind as well of thrown it out the window while driving down the highway!
