Asking for help for a double-secret project: Place names
I am working with someone on a SUPER COOL, DOUBLE SECRET land-use benefiting project. (Don't even ask, but trust me, everyone will LOVE this.) We HOPE to unveil this at the Cantina...but I am not 100% sure we can do this by then without other peoples help.
Here's what I am asking for: 1. PLACE NAMES ON THE RUBICON. The name of the obstacles or places of interest on the trail. The problem here is that I know of a few places that have several different names, so please include all the variants. I need the LOCATION of the place on the trail, and a PICTURE of it if possible. (we will not use your picture for anything other than to identify it and give us an idea.) Even if you think it's a common place or name (Gatekeeper, Little Sluice, soup bowl, Old sluice, indian Trail, Buck island etc...) Please list it. GPS cords. would also be PIMP if you have them.. but location does not have to be EXACT. 2. Names of important Rubicon Regulars and clubs that you think should be regonised in some way. (Dennis Meyer, Mark Smith, FOTR, RTF etc.) If anything, we will have a solid thread on pirate that categorizes all the spots on the Rubicon. ![]() EDIT: Here is a large map that I numbered and uploaded to an old website of mine: http://www.kurtuleas.com/numberedmap.jpg I know it does not show from Big Sluice to the springs... but what I did was NUMBER the trail. There's numbers 1-38 or so from the spillway to buck (and a few on the top right at caddy. Then I numbered in thru wentworth (ww1 to ww11) AND I numbered what I *THINK* is the orginal trail with OST 1-4 (OST for Old School Trail) If you post a place in this thread, PLEASE post up the corrasponding number on the map.

I think it may be good to put place names in order.
Ignoring WW becuase I don't know that way as well, and just pulling names otta my head, here's what I got so far. (I know i will be missing a lot here) Please plug in names where you see fit. Kiosk spillway Gatekeeper The Bowl (HWY 50) Rock Garden Ellis Walker Hill Soup Bowl (Soup kitchen) Winter Camp (The Elbow, Pirate Camp, poser camp) little Sluice (spider lake) Thousand Dollar Hill Indian Trail Old sluice Buck Island Big sluice RS Bridge Rubicon Springs Cadillac Hill Inspiration Point

Anderson rock is where the big rock is in the middle of the trail after Thousand Dollar before the Slabs, I believe. I always wondered who he was. The carwash is where the trail use to go through Buck I think. Trying to find that name thread for you.

Car wash is/was the low bridge going out to Miller.
I thought it was Walker rock. Chappie had one also. Bottom dollar hill was a bulldozed hole just after the last rock section going out to Tahoma. Last edited by ISDTBower; 07-26-2011 at 10:13 PM. |

Where everyone parks their rigs to watch little sluice, TOYOTA ROCK or HECKLER ROCK
The WATERING HOLE Just after little sluice. The left side is shallow and the right side swallows tires whole ![]() The inside line at the U turn going down to Big sluice, TEQUILA TURN. I heard a Rock zombie call this BRONCO ROCK. I have even hit it taking the wrong line. I'll find a picture of it later. but its right after the granite bowl as you start to climb up an incline. The rock is on you right hand side sicking out. EDIT: Found a pipc on the web. Does anyone have a pic of it dry? ![]() This one i made up but I always call it CHILLIGANS ROCK at little sluice Of course EGG ROCK on top of the granite bowl
