I got a leatherman Wave when they first came out, and after a few years the lock for the serrated blade failed so they sent me an updated Wave to replace it. I didn't like the updated Wave as much.
That 2nd Wave got lost and I recently got a Surge thinking something a little bigger would be good, but looking back I liked the Waves better.

Has anyone else work out the old Leatherman PST and replaced it with a new model? Which new model and what do you think? It looks like all the newer ones are much thicker/heavier which doesn't appeal to me. Also plastic doesn't appeal to me.

I carry the Crunch and a mini LED Mag-lite 5 days a week...Just a way of life really. It's like having a pair of vise grips on you at all times. I'm kind of surprised nobody else called one out yet, I could never go back to the Wave. Any one else?

I've been carrying a Gerber daily since 94 when I went to vocational school. School admins and security knew I carried it and never said a word. Been through several as I break them and just throw them into a drawer and grab my backup. I'm one a Gerber Diesel now that is getting tired. I think I'm going to look at a SOG this time around.

I went back and forth between the surge and the crunch, no blade on the outside is what made me go to the surge.

i`ve got a Leatherman core, its been discontinued but the heavy duty 300 they sell nowadays is pretty much the same exact thing, I just use the leather sheath it came with and have no complaints actually kinda surprised how well its held up for something that looks cheaply made.

This is the reason I have been carrying a WAVE Leatherman for years. I have been able to hold onto my last 2 for a couple years now, but TSA has a couple of mine that were forgotten in my backpack when traveling.

Ive been through 4 surge tools and about ten other brands. My main problem with most multi tools is the flimsy nature of the handles. The surge has held up well. I carry it with the belt clip in a leg pocket next to a tactical style folder. I do lose the screwdriver bits all the time, they just fall out. I emailed them about it and they want me to send it in for warranty, but its a design problem- all of the 4 I have owned do this. I just found a surge in the skid-plate of my rzr that i lost awhile ago so I'm sending that one in for warranty to see what they do.

I picked up a leatherman supertool 300 a few years back. I carry it religously. Id rather leave my wallet or phone at home before i leave it. I cant count how many times a day i use it for little tasks. Its definitly a necessity.

I have a wave and carry it every day in my pocket. I bought it when I moved to Bush Alaska 3 years ago and haven't stopped carrying it now that I'm back in the lower 48. Great tool and I use it daily for something. It's a bit bulky though to have in your pocket.

i used to carry my letherman 80% of the time untill i started to fly more and more. its been a few years since i dug out my trusty letherman. a few months ago an family friend was over and needed to have me look at their car and insisted on paying me to do so. after i declined payment a few times i was handed a brand new SOG Paratool. so far ive been carrying it and really like it. its a tad more compact than my old letherman but just about as useful. while at KOH i used the Paratool quiet a few times and was happy to see it didnt show any signs of wear and tear after being used to break loose some buggered up hardware.

I used to cary Leatherman and other high quality multi tools. But they always seemed to disappear or grow legs and walk away. I went to a cheap HF multi tool and have had it now for the last 10 years. I'm not saying it is anywhere near the quality of the good stuff but I got tired buying new tools every month or sometimes more often than that.

I carried an original Gerber Multi-plier for over 15 years. Its still in my Camelbac pack with short term needs stuff. I carried a Leatherman SuperTool 200 until 2 years ago when I got a Leatherman Charge tti. Or was it Xti... Regardless. I loved the Gerber, but got pinched regularly. Still, it was an awesome everyday carry. The LM Supertool is great, but heavy, and didn't pinch. The Charge feels good in the hand, is lighter than the ST200, but can pinch nearly as easy as the Gerber if your not careful. I'e had two Micras, and lost them both. Useful, but too small for my taste.

I carry a surge everyday at work, and home i take it off very rarely and have noticed in the past few years that i put it on my belt even when i have the day off. i love it, i stopped by a buddies shop a few months back and the leatherman rep was there and gave me a leather case after harassing me about my destroyed mesh one. i love it.

I carried and used a Leatherman wave (the early model) every day from 2003-2010. I got tired of all the broken "drivers". Now carry a SOG EOD power assist and I don't like it much. Too big.
I use the screw drivers and pliers the most on a tool as I carry other knives everyday also. At one time the outside knife access was a huge deal, now it's not at all. An suggestions? |
