craigslist score

I almost didn't post this cause I didn't want to seem like i was bragging, but there are enough old tool enthusiasts around here I figured maybe someone would enjoy:

I scored this for $75 from a local retired gentleman who used to be a Wilton sales rep and apparently has an attic full of similar hardware.

Wilton are good vises. Just don't use a cheater pipe to tighten it...

I used to work in Van Alstyne. I work in sherman now.

Win win for all involved. You paid $75 for something he probably paid $10 for back in the day if he really was a dealer. Win for him. You got a Wilton USA vise new in the box for $75. Even if there was a consistant source for quality USA vises they would probably be a few hundered $ and you paid $75. Win for you. Nice vise and god bless America. Pass it on to your children.

Also - if he really does have an "attic full of them" then buy them all for $75 each.

The two he has posted since I bought this one have been damaged, one with broken inserts, and one with missing inserts.

This seemed to be the only brand new one.

Problem is I'm afraid to use it now cause it's so nice! I know I'll have it F'd up like a coke head in the evidence locker if I actually mount it to a bench and use it.

This guy made the same comment about using a cheater bar to tighten it...my first thought was of the 6" wilton (import) on my bench now that has a pretzel handle from the same thing.

No problem. You don't need a big one, just a small one will do the job to really speed up the time it takes to crank it in and out. Just a few uses and I swear you will be like "why don't all vices have these?". Plus, if you keep the wheel small you won't be tempted to use it to crank to tighten - you still want to use the rod to tighten it down.

Just adding a crank wheel to speed up the adjustment time when you use your vice. You still use the bar for it's purpose, but a wheel like that with a spinner handle lets you speed up those big adjustments from holding something small to something large. It can be a real time saver.

DRM are you removing the handle to put this wheel on or do you leave both on there? If you leave the handle on doesn't it fling around when you try using the wheel?

Do you have a picture of one already done?

Warning!! Stay out of the fling area.

Seems simple enough, and a great mod. That was NOT a pun BTW

Go get the other one, i can get you parts, fix it ad sell it!

We have the new ones they are not much more than that but they are not made in the USA. Wilton only makes part of their line in the USA a now and they are a lot more than $75

You'll eventually break the castings or the nut.
