welder for bobbing bed

gettin ready to buy a welder since i gotta bobb my friends bed and make some half doors. do you guys reccomend me buying a cheap welder for thin metal. i plan on making a couple sets of half doors and i plan on using this welder for sheet metal. What do you guys think?

It will do the job. Just practice with the piece you cut off to get your heat and speed down before you start burning it back together

I think you get what you pay for. If you buy just enough welder to get by, you will always be sorry you didn't get a bigger, better one. After you have it for a while you'll want to make bumpers, sliders, skid plates, ect., ect. Another thing to to consider is parts and service. If you buy a Miller, Lincoln, Hobart or ESAB you can get parts and service from almost anywhere.

yea what 64trvlr said.i would buy a welder that comes with a regulator so you can attach a gas bottle to it.you will think your self when you go to weldeing thin sheet metle.im not saying that it cant be done with flux core im saying that is so nice not to have to spend time knocking off flux after every half or one inch weld.so buy a nice welder to begain with its much cheaper in the long run.iv saw lincoln and miller 135 welders for about 450 $ and hobart welders sometimes even cheaper.depending on the company you can get a 90 cubic foot botle for around 100$.

well i have a oxy/acetalyn setup its just that idont have the patience to weld metal with that thing. i also have a lincoln buzzbox and that thing is freakin awesome for welding on the frame. i use the oxy setup for a torch so i know for sure in about 6 months ill be gettin a mig its jus t tht i gotta do this stuff now and brandon miller was tellin me that a cheap welder will do fine . i think ill get a cheap one but ill get one with a regulator.. thanks for the input.

could always turn the buzzbox way down and run 6013 rod...works pretty good for thin stuff
