Tool vendor guy is prick, what to do?

I have just recently changed jobs and have a new tool guy, problem is he is, IMO, a prick. I have gone from being able to get any tool I bust replaced or rebuilt no questions asked and now every little hting is a battle to get replaced. I used ot get good deals and be able to bargin... that is gone as well.

The new guy seems ot have the "where else you going to go" attitude. I know I can buy on line but that still leaves me with the warranty issue... I do not like taking tools to a dealer I do not buy from for replacement and repair. I know they get reimbursed for most of the warranty stuff but not all and it seems very unfair to me to keep using a dealer who nevers sees a penny from me to have to foot the bill.

Is there a way to get a new tool guy for our shop? We are near a mahjor city anbd there are like a trillion vendors for this company in the area. Our whole shop is sick of this guy but would like ot continue to partronize the company, can we complain to somebody and get a new drivers assigned ot our shop, route, district, whatever?

Call the manufacturer - tell them that their name is not being well-represented. They will put the pressure on the dude themselves.

Chances are, if he is that bad in personality he isn't selling tools anyway - and they will be looking to change over the franchise.

BTW, is he the owner of the franchise or just a driver for an owner? Makes a difference in the way things get handled... Drivers can get fired - franchise owners are tougher to deal with.

Franchise owner.

He does fairly well, has been around in the area for a long time and like
i said heplays the "only game in town" card and plays it well.

Am going to try climbing up the ladder with complaints. if it gets him replaced or changes his attitude I don;t care, as loing as I get the service I am used to from this company.

I say call the company also. Had this priblem last week, I kept calling the local guy for a replacement part and he wouldn't call back after a week or so I called the company and asked for another persons name and number. Within 15 minutes the origional guy called me back. It could be coincidence but I really doubt it. I wasn't impolite or anything and it seams they handeled it the right way.

Ask the dealer for his district managers name and number and proceed from there. I did that locally, a few months later the dude was gone.

I've posted this before but......

A guy I worked with busted a 5/8" Matco deep socket on a tranny. Next day Matco guy givs him a hard time because he was using it with a impact gun and should have been using the black hi impact ones. I'm sure he was the first to ever do this. Bottom line was that the Matco guy said he wouldn't replace it. Dennis was pissed as were the rest of the machanics. Next day the Snappy guy shows up and hears what a dickhead the Matco guy was so he tells Dennis to go get a deep 5/8 and he'll take the split Matco socket.

Over the next three weeks every single person payed off what they owed to Matco and then never went to meet the Matco truck again. After about two weeks he stopped comming by. Talk about steaping on your own dick. I have no idea how much $$$ Matco lost by not replacing a $20 socket but it was in the thousands.

I'd call "the other guy" and let him know that the Snap-On/Matco/Mac guy is an a-hole and to please stop by.

In this area, there are several tool dealers (Snap On, Mac, Cornwell, etc...). If going to the district manager doesn't work, explain to the guy that you think his attitude sucks and if he doesn't change his tune, you'll change manufacturers (I'd also mention this to the district manager). Don't let him intimidate you with the "I'm the only game in town" bullshit. And if you break the old stuff, find someone that'll work with you for exchanges.

When I's in highschool, the SnapOn guy that came to my garage was an ass and if we wanted something special or had an odd tool break, we usually had to go to the next area and deal with another dealer. He was cool, but our rep was a fuckstick.

Thanks for the info guys.

Unfortunatly we ar elocate din a bad spot, we have trouble getting tool drivers to come to us... kind of out in the middle of nowhere for them. None of the other guys will buy anyhting but this dudes product, they seem to feel the tools make the mechanic, make sit hard to put any pressure on the guy with out going over his head.

What amazes me is the other guys bitch and bitch about his service but keep right on buying from him and pretty much keep put all the other tool vendors!

I am located near Chicago.

What kind of mechanics are they?!? I have seen more "off brand" (not snap-on, mac, etc) than I can remember. In the shop I am in now, I think there are only two Snap-on boxes, the rest are Craftsman, Homak, etc.

I can't say I have really met and dick tool dealers, but my favorite was a Matco dealer. If you really needed something he'd make special trips to get it to you sooner. He was a cool guy.

I would call around and see what other vendors are close. Give them a call and see if you can get on their route so you can tell this prick to shove it.

Exactly...a stupid socket and he lost all the business....

If your locatd in chicago you should have every flippin' tool available at your doorstep. What kind of tools are we talking here....usually if its a common tool their are 5 huge companies making them...outside reps travel all over their area, we get those yankees all the time. If your not happy with his service or his attitude shitcan his business...Life is too short to be grumpy

well i have had some bad dealings with a couple of snap on guys but unfortuantly theres not much you can do since you land in their terortory. problem is if you get another guy to come over they can lose there routes. I have to travel to get to my snap on guy since i dont work where i used to see him once a week at but its the best thing since he stands behind his products and when i break them he takes them back no question and rebuilds or replaces them

The Snap-On guy we had was great because he never "sold" us anything. He might say "have you seen the new ratchet we are comming out with?" but never pushed anything. I told him that I was looking for a cheap 1/4" air ratchet and to let me know if he finds one. About a month later he gives me a big smile and says that a guy just traded in his bluepoint 1/4" for a Snappy 1/4 and it's mine for $30. He did this all the time for people and after the Matco problem everyone was 100% devoted to him and Snap-On. It's just good buisness.

I'd call someone else. Never hurts to ask.

Find out who is district manager is and call him. The franshisers have to answer to the company, if it is snap on, they are pretty ruthless!

Really though, after reading all these shitty stories about dealers...then seeing that ST is now a dealer...kinda makes you wonder what kind of people they hire for this job.

If it's Snap-On, call the 800 number and ask for your local industrial rep...

Tell him your story and one of two things will happen, either you end up with an industrial account, or a new salesman.

Industrial accounts rock! Great discounts, often free shipping.
