For my larger ft.lb wrench I have a clicker style, but for my inch pound I have one of the old needle types. I like it because I can get see rotating torque on the fly (say bearing preload).
got a dial type (smaller and tougher, and bigger range) from the matco truck, love it, bought it JUST for measuring bearing preload. Was about $200 bucks.
Yeah, if you plan on doing preload, constant torque application, or precision stuff, go with a dial type... it is essentially a beam torque wrench where the beam reads out on a dial. Beam TW are more accuarate than clickers (in thoery) but there is alot of inaccuracy witht he way they are read. Precision instruments has a nice one that youc an get for like 160-180. Also look for CDI.
