Puma Air Compressors
Hey guys, I need a new AC and I've been looking around for a long time for something bigger than my pile-o-poop oilless. I don't have a lot of coin, but want to get something decient. A long time back I looked at Puma stuff and it looked really nice, and it is available localy and in my price and pumping range. I'm looking at a 5 hp 30 gallon upright with 2 cyclinder cast iron oiled V pump that puts out around 5.7 CFM at 90psi. Have any of you used or heard anything good or bad about Puma ACs?? Any input would be much appreciated, thanks.

I use one of their 12v compressors to power my OBA. So far, so good after about a year and some fairly heavy use running tools and airing tires.

Wonder if that is really 5hp. My 5hp, twin, oiled, and 20 yrs old, makes 9cfm at 90psi.

my 5hp single stage eaton makes 20 cfm at only 600 pump rpm...
Those are BS ratings on that compressor, probably only like 2 hp running, now id like an electrician to check my math, but I believe a 5 hp motor on 110 would draw 50-60 amps 5.7 cfm is not enough to run many tools. It will handle an impact but for a tought bolt you might have to wait for air. With my friends compressor and his ratchet, you could pull out 2-3 bolts before you needed to wait for air. Forget about a grinder or anything liek that. What is your budget? Also, maybe look into a bigger used unit. Some great deals on ebay Jim |

My budget is $250 and I don't wana mess around with trying to find used. I've looked before and the only thing I've found with it I'd spend my whole budget shipping the damn thing. Plus I've had bad luck with Ebay and ACs (bought a Shultz body shop head, never got it). As for what that will run, I've run die grinders, impacts, ratchets, paint sprayers, and sanders on my pos that I garrentee you is not pumping more than 4 anymore. I can't afford a Ingersol or I'd have one already. I've never seen a decient priced "5hp" running 20 CFM, those pumps alone are over $600. I know my air needs, and it's no where near 20 CFM, I'm not a shop, I'm a screw off in my garage guy, I don't use the AC enough to justify spending more than 500.
I'm going to go get this one toinght, I'll let you know if I like it or not. Edit: ok so ya, they are 350, thought fo some reason they were cheeper. I can't justify that much for an AC till I'm ready to start painting the truck, so I'm running with the old Dewalt, welder and elbo grease, which normaly works better anyway. And FYI, these cheepo compressors are "5hp start up 2 hp running" cheep ass BS like that, but I'm not droping 700+ on an AC, not worth it.
