Hardware Storage.. What are you doing ?

I want to stock up on my nuts, bolts, and washers and need some storage ideas. I would really like to use something metal 4x? with like 4" cubbies..

What are you using ?

Don't have one, but have you looked at HF storage bins? Several diferent styles, wall mount, free standing, etc...

I want to stay away from peg hook plastic stuff. Really looking for some industrial type storage bins. Something you would see at Home Depot or Ace

this one doesn't look too bad at HF. Plastic bins though. Plastic can sag over time especially when you start loading the bins up.

I use the Gladiator storage system. I bought a lot of the white PVC looking racks and grey bins from a Kmart just as it what going out of business.

You can get them at Lowe's/HD. I really like mine as I don't have to block out a 4'x6' or similar section for a parts bin rack. Rather, I have 2 rows running down a length of wall.

Another good point is that these racks are extremely versatile. I have some hooks on the ends where I don't have the bins.

Alot of times if you buy enough bolts a supply company will throw the bins in for free. Thats how I got mine. Its a metal cubby hole design. I spent like $200 on bolts.

I'm willing to give up 3-4' X 2' of floor space for an industrial type cabinet and spend around 300.00 for a nice unit

I was planning on buying the hardware from a local supplier that sells in bulk. I'll give them a try. I wa spllaning on spending 300.00 or so on hardware.

I can't stand going to THD and ace ( mostly Ace, because they have an awesome selection ) and paying 12.00 for a bag of bolts that's worth .25

Fastenal has some nice blue bins like that I was going to get but ended up using some like you posted with the drawers jsut because I had them.

This is what I ended up using. Check your local bolt house for used bins like the one pictured. Should be able to get one reasonably priced

Those are LYONS cabinets, they range from high $380 to $580 per section, there is 6 sections infront of the guy... I have a couple i scored for free when a local shop closed, won't pay what they want to expand them though... My $.02 is that they are ok but I am looking for a used vidmar. I am a parts man and vidmar or lista syle high density cabinets can't be beat if you don't have to buy them new.

This is what I use, except for the larger ones from 3/8" up to 1.25" bolts I made shelves to put them on rather than hanging them like shown. They can be stacked too fwiw. I really don't like the drawer type cabinets because it's a pita to have to open and close each drawer when trying to find something. Especially with the cheap ones that don't like to open or close... Then I spent that extra $150 I saved on more hardware. There's nothing like always having the right bolt/washer/nut when you need it.

here is what I'm gonna try to use. I got these when my local Ace went thru and reorganized some of thery're stock. Theyr'e a little big for what I want to use them for but they were almost free.

It works out well haveing a few drawers open to put the hardware for certain things while the rigs broken down for modifications or repairs. For instance Iv'e got all the bolts and fittings for my fuel cell in one particular drawer and u-bolts and nuts in another, etc.

I want to get a piece of the white dry erase board that they sell at Lowes and cut it into pieces that I can glue to the face of each drawer to I.D. whats in them but still make it easy to change it all around or store stuff temporarily.
