No tech for liability reasons. just a couple pics. You'll all have to figure it out from the photos.:flipoff2:

I always wanted to build something like this, just needed a reason.

I'm not sure what the capacity is yet, and I wasn't really sure if it was gonna work, so I didnt get too fancy.

works good so far, the log in pics is only a few hundred #s. I've got a large compressor to move next week... we'll see how that goes:smokin:

Looks good, Eric -- a simple gin pole with a ratchet-strap tensioner, right? I'm digging on the simple, creative just-do-it approach.

The next task is to figure out how to make it work with your winch... :p

PS: that setup could come in handy when the Forest implements a one-vehicle-length-away-from-the-road policy!

From the looks of it the strap holds the boom in place and he's using the winch to lift the load.

Nice setup, limits will be determined from the strength of the boom assembly, strap strength and strap mounting framework strength. seen a few of that style in use before work decent enough.

Cool setup though, and quite simple to install/remove i bet too.

best bet is to build some type of lockouts to tie the frame to the axle so you dont crush out your spring packs.. as u can see i dont have any stoppers in place in the first picture.

i have now made the "J hook" adjustable. similar to the last pic i put 2 more so i can adjust the height of the crane to 3 seperate levels on order of 6ft tall to 9.5ft tall. so it can fit in my standard garage , or the barn.

I have used my crane to lift up a k5 blazer to flip it on it's side to torch the axles out.. have loaded many NON rolling vehicles onto my trailer with it.

i was there for the Jeepgif jeep crane.. where we lifted the J truck cab.. that crane was NOT built to lift anything of that weight. it was orginally built to lift the last truss on the barn you can see in the background. We decided to test it's limits by using it to install the J truck cab.. it worked.. with NO balast weights.. we were laughing our asses off on how much the boom bowed.. obviously if it was going to be used for more lifting like that it would need a longer j hook support much closer to the top :) the cab was bouncing and spinning in the driveway for a while before we decided it was "safe" enough to drive with it LMAO.. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME...:)
