the picture is of the trap doors only for now.I will get a picture of the hoses this weekend and post up for you to see... I still need to have some kind of exhaust fan installed in the wall to pull welding and plasma fumes out though... the plasma really puts out the fumes especially with an unclean material... JOSH

I'm wondering the same thing. I think he is wondering about exhausting the whole shop. If you put an exhaust fan in you also have to have a make up air unit or open a door or window. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this.
You can put a ceiling mounted exhaust fan in on one side of the garage and a gravity damper on the other to have good cross flow. Anyone have any ideas?

One of my customers has a exhaust system worth thinking about. Dunno how well it works but here goes. There are several plastic lines hanging from the ceiling that are open on the end, and they go into a large tube(18" diameter), and there is two fans outside the shop. One fan sucks the air from the shop via the small tubes, and one blows into the shop via the area around the small tubes in the large tube. The theory is the exhaust will be pulled out(welding fumes, smoke etc) and as the air is going out of the shop, it is heating up the air coming in, so that there is not much heat loss. Does it work? It has to be better then a large fan blowing out, and a door open on the other side, as far as maintaining warm temps.
The heavy equipment shop I used to work in had 7" diameter tubes hanging from the ceiling and could be let down and set on exhaust stacks, to pull out the diesel smoke while running the machine in doors. The welders would let those tubes down to very near where they were welding and suck up the fumes quite well. I have no idea what the cfms were, but it would suck the ball cap off your head if you walked under one. I've been thinking alot on how to make and exhaust system work in my 1 car garage. My son wants me to teach him to weld more, but after about 15 minutes of welding the garage is full of smoke, then we have to let the smoke and heat out. Fabbing is not much fun in the winter right now. One of my customers has suggested a small fan(6" diameter), and some non perferated tile and plumb it out of the shop.Michael
