I am trying to find out which companies actually build the tool boxes in America. I know snap-on and Mac do but what other companies are out there that you will not be paying for the name? I know the above companies are good boxes as I have a snap-on which I have out grown and am looking for another. I don't think I will find another snap-on for the price I paid for mine.
I grew up in Waterloo. I believe that the headquarters is still there, but there is no manufacturing there that I am aware of. I heard the manufacturing got shipped down to OK, but I've also heard that it went down to Mexico as well. I'm not real sure, but they aren't made in Waterloo anymore.
Now, John Deere tractors on the other hand... :flipoff2:
The only one that matters is Tool Chassis, they make a bitchin box that will outlast any of the Mac/Crap-On or whatevery else is out there, plus the company is run by wheelers/PBB members.
Talk to Brett, the F-Toy guy. He makes some BAD ASS boxes that are on par with the top Mac and Snap-On. Not only is he American, he's a small-timer that competes in F-Toy, supports the cause, and is generally a great guy all around.
Not big enough for our shop if it was bigger then might be something to consider, we got a 4 bay snapon with a hutch and 2 top chests thats spilling over. every drawer is full and the hutch has tools laying in it that don't have a home. We got alot of tools, Big truck stuff, small truck stuff, diesel stuff, gas stuff, small engine stuff, welding stuff, heavy equipment stuff, farm equipment stuff, hydraulics stuff... Sadly almost all of it gets used pretty regularly and we still don't have the tools sometimes.
Looks like a cool lil-mobile work bench. I wonder how much they want for that thing though it uses a bunch of thick steel and would hopefuly be engineered to handle the weight of something on top being pounded on.
I just got back from Costco and saw they now carry this box from Torin (not sure if it's made in the USA or not). It's the same box (top and bottom) shown here from Northern but it was priced at $999:
Northern wants $999 for the bottom and $649 for the top!
