I have used both machines at demos and I would say go with the most tonnage you can get for your dollar. Both companies make a great product; you are going to get a nice machine regardless.
We have a 40 ton scotchman and it's probably my favorite tool in the shop. I can make a 5' piece of flat stock into an assload of tabs for mounting panels in about 10 minutes w/ the punch & sheer.
I've had my eye on this one. It has room for a NICE sized press brake if you don't already have one. 32" For sheet metal and I believe like 28" for thicker stuff (guided). Not to mention large throat depth, and affordable custom sized dies. Oh and 14" x 1/2" is a nice capacity to shear!
Check out Geka iron workers. Considered to be just about the best in the industry. I have wanted one for a long time but my pockets are not that deep. For most guys for home the Scotchman 45 ton pro portable will do fine, but as advertised its not a production machine.
I have researched thes for some time and the Geka is top of the line.
Not as capable as a full size ironworker for punching holes, but you can take this thing to the work instead of the other way around -> http://www.hougen.com/punch_pro/punch_pro_index.html
I'm don't know what they go for new, but I saw one on CL last week for $1500.
I think the Piranah is the best of the ones listed, we use Edwards here at the shop, three years of day-in-day-out use and still running stong without one hickup.
No clue, old enough I can't find a match to it on the internet. Maybe thats why its cheap, I don't think it is really a Scotchman, I think the fellow is just generically calling it that.
