Go Snap On. I can't say anything bad about Matco never had any of their tools. Don't buy Mac tools there cheap and mostly made in japan or some me so ****** country. I bought maybe 30 different things from them and ended up trading all but screw driver set in with Snap On.
I too have been recruited by both Matco and Snap-On. From what I have learned, the likelihood of receiving an ordered tool in a timely manner from Snap-On, is much worse than Matco.
Snap-On offers some wonderful financing options to make it easier to get into a truck, Matco didn't seem to have the same options.
The only thing I didn't like about both was the absolute refusal of anyone to give me any indication as to what I could expect to earn. Spending the big bucks to buy a franchise on faith is not something I'd do lightly. Kinda like accepting a job, but not being told the wage. YEah, yeah, yeah, I know they all claim to have a reason, but it's hard for me to spend those $ on faith.
Cornwell has kinda made a comeback. A friend of mine has had a Cornwell truck for about 2 years and he said he wishes he would have known to do it before. he as a good Tech so I know he must be doing well with Cornwell to replace his wage...
I like Cornwell tools but I mostly have Snap on because I have a good guy that has had the route for years and takes good care of his customers. That's what sells tools...
As far as buying into one or the other I have no clue...
The best thing you can do is talk to multiple dealers (a couple diff. Snappy, Matco etc.) about the "behind the scenes" deales and bullshit each company does. I know Snap-on pulls some shadey shit when a tech dosnt pay on a Snap-on financed contract and other stuff I not going to get into here. Matco also has some flaws but for me it was the right choice. As far as getting in your best bet is to talk to there reps. also go check out there sales meetings theres always good info there.
Get to know your dealer and pick the one you trust. My old snap on dealer was easy to push over and we could tell him we want 10% this shit and go for it. But then he had to hire someone to repo tools because he didn't have the balls to do it. Then i payed about $6,000 for my box and when i pulled the plastic off the stainless top there was a dent in it and i showed it too him and he just said "what am i supposed to do about it, you can barely see it" and didn't stand behind his shit.
on the other hand the matco dealer is the coolest dealer ever, he'll buy back tools he sold over a year ago if a tech has a legitimate complaint and stand behind his shit hands down. Then the cornwell dealer shows up and he looks like a bum trying to pimp durlast stuff.
I'd say Snap-On. They're all overpriced pieces of shit....but if you're going to buy an overpriced piece of shit, might as well go with the most over priced piece of shit.
I prefer Snap-on,I have had Matco,Mac and cornwell. And am pretty partial to Snap-on.there all fine but as of right now Snap-on is the only one coming around.
Mac is the largest of the three followed by snap on then matco. I'd look into mac, a lot of guys seen to like their junk, personally I don't. I know of one mac dealer locally you seems to have made a good living doing it.
I like all of my Matco stuff better than my snap-on or cornwell stuff. Never bought any Mac stuff because the dealer was a douche.
