AutoCad dimple dies
Anybody have dimple dies drawn in AutoCad they could email me?
Looking for simple projects to try on a couple new prototyping lathes we bought at work.... I might do a better job programming if the part in the chuck is mine to keep.. Edit: I moved this thread from General , thought this crowd might be more inviting.

Or if you'd be willing to send me the Solidworks files, I'd be happy to convert them. PM me if you want. |

I had been considering this same thing for the new CNC lathe the local mini baja team at the university has
I'd be interested in some files as well if anyone is willing to give them up. I can convert solidworks to autocad as well

Feel free to email me a copy..
![]() All I have is the 2000 version on my home computer.... any compatibility problems with the later versions? I'm barely above incompetent with ACad .... I've just learned the basics to help camouflage my inability to do trigonometry.

Yes, anything saved in a later version format will not work on any older formats (although older formats can work on the newer versions). It must be saved for your 2000 version/format to be able to work on your older 2000 version.

Rob I had asked for the files for the same reason. I figured I could get some made at school. I don't know of anybody around g-ville that has a set to get measurements off of.

Best thing to do is export the files as a .dxf or .iges/.igs file. They're more transportable between the differnet CAD softwares. I have to do this a lot since I use Microstation and most everyone else uses AutoCAD.
It would be a simple deal to turn out a drawing... I just don't know the relevant dimensions.

I could easily make the drawings in AutoCAD, I just don't have the dimensions.
If nobody wants to share, at least someone have a hand sketch of the dies we can develop drawings with?

I think even I could generate a drawing ..... I'm just too lazy to sit down with a set of calipers and work out the pertinent deminsions. ![]() Jeff

Here you go you lazy SOBs
! This drawing is for 1" dies. You can extrapolate any size from it. The die angles remain the same for all I have tried. For what it is worth, this is entirely my work and not measured off any pre-made die sets, so use it at your own risk. The drawings are not dimensioned, but if you use ACAD, they should be accurate. I have made a few sets on my manual lathe, and they all work great, in fact, there is a post somewhere in this section with pictures of mine. They were made in Autodesk '05 IIRC. If the bandwidth gets out of hand with my server hosting them, I will take it down, so get it while you can.Clicky Later, Jason
