Attachment for stick welders that can be used like a oxy/ace torch, to heat/bend, gouge. It uses 2 carbon electrodes. It's the v shaped object in the photo.

can also be one electrode using compressed air, also called air arc. Very efficient for removing welds

A carbon arc holder is for heating with an arc using an AC stick welder as a power source-They were handy "back in the day" if you owned a Lincoln tombstone, but didn't own a O/A rig. You would adjust the carbons so there was an arc between them and use the arc to heat things. Don't see them very often except on "vintage" Ebay postings and garage sales. They work OK for removing stuck/rusted nuts and suck for pretty much everything else. I think Lincoln quit making them.

A carbon arc cutting (CAC, arcair, "air arcing") rig is for cutting up large materials and/or gouging out welds usually combined with a large engine drive as a power source, the process requires a LOT of amps, 400-500 amps isn't uncommon. It's still in common use. Torches look like THIS.

Just to clarify - They are two completely different processes.
