Looking for some knee pads...
Yeah.. knee pads, hardy fuckin har..
Looking for some good heavy duty leather knee pads with leather straps and steel or brass buckles. I'm tired of killing my knees when I have to work on the ground. Havent seen anything good at the local welding supply. Suggestions? |

Don't have a suggestion for kneepads, but I do possibly have a job offer once you get some....
![]() (had to be done) every single pad I've tried has had a lousy strap system that ended up cutting into the back of my leg if I made them tight enough to hold. Think next go around, I'm going to look for shin/knee combo and see if that will help w/the strapping issue |

If you move around a lot it probably wouldn't be ideal and it sounds like you want a quality and "set and forget" kind of solution but I was changing the struts and a bunch of bushings on my uncle's caddy in the driveway (working on my knees most of the time). He got me a foam knee pad for gardeners which you should be able to get at wally world or any other place with a yard and garden section. I thought I would pitch it, but after 4 years...it's turned from blue to black but I still use it (although my wrenching has dropped a thousand fold in the last two years
).

Look into concrete finishing. My father was a concrete finisher for years.. Always had Leather knee pads exactly like you discribed. Said they can be found at just about any place that sells concrete tools..
Like these? http://www.amazon.com/Bucket-Boss-92.../dp/B0009F3UOE Last edited by Soule88; 12-06-2009 at 02:47 PM. |

When i tiled my hole house i went to the local Miltray surplus store and bought some huge combat knee pads. They looked like my old skater pads. But half the cost. $50
There padded enough that you can drop to your knee with them on. Or look at the local skate shop. Skate pads are nice to.

Something more like this (local brand called Kunys)?:
![]() I wore out several pairs of those back in the day, also learned early on never to run the strap through the second part of the buckle for quick release.

All you guys complaining about the straps are big pussies.
![]() Get some with 2 straps instead of 1.

I need LEATHER pads. I guess you missed that the first 3 times I posted it? lol
I doubt that is any quicker than the strap buckle on the others.. especially since the ones you posted have 2 straps. |

I'll take a picture of my set I left at work. They have held up to daily abuse over the last 2 years. But I guess since I work on knee pads all day I wouldn't know a damn thing about it.

Why leather? I did read it. But sometimes your conception can be persuaded in other directions. There are other pads I've seen with magnetic clips that are quicker. But, again, I guess after 2 years of hard use I've grown used to taking them off.

In my experience those plastic knee pads are also bad about wanting to slide when you have a little side load on them.. like when your knees are splayed a little bit. Leather tends to bite a little better. |

Just like choosing underwear or beer I guess. Different strokes for different fokes. I've tried about every knee pad on the market. I'm kinda stuck with mine cause the leather and foam style pads stick to sticky surfaces. I know when I forget the knee pads on a weekend wheelin trip I break something. They are the first tool I pack before I go out to play.

I have several sets that all cut into my legs.
Recently I tried on a pair of voo doo tactical knee pads. They are pretty nice. They don't cut into the back of my leg like the other brands. I have not worn them long term so I can't comment on the durability. I wish I had bought a set, but I ended up buying some other crap. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c...6&kwtid=294966

If I had to be on my knees all day I'd invest in these.
http://www.shagtools.com/tools/ProKn...-PROKNEE-1.cfm Concrete finishers around here us a style similar to this. It spreads the weight out more not just so much on you knees. |

Could you make some using ballistic/tacticool supplies?
Think about a pair of tighter fitting sweat pants. Cut a section out of the leg 5 or 6" below and above the knee. Add some padding to the front and instead of 2 spread out straps...you would have elastic holding it snug spread out with a couple wide straps to cinch it down so it won't slide off. So it would be like a short pant that you slide over your knee. ALmost like a knee brace except with a pad sewn in. Yeh it'd probably be easier to buy something but on the off chance that you can't find one... Might even help stabilize your knee if you use a knee brace as the basis.
