I like the Duracell 600.

It has a lil inverter in it, a radio and a light + jump starts.

We've used ours a lot for jumping cars, atvs, and powering internet stuff when power has gone out. I think it was $140 shipped on amazon. We are contemplating getting another for the other vehicle.

It's hit-or-miss by reviews in terms of the battery being in storage TOO LONG before charging.. so be sure to test it when/if you get one!

got a SnapOn model at the BTF Project Warrior buildup. It didn't last a year. Probably had about 20 jumps on it and the battery gave up the ghost. Just more SnapOn shit. A replacement battery costs as much as the unit did.

Very good point! Well i live in the arctic circle of iowa that has -degree weather in the winter. I have like 10 vehicles. I can't afford optimas for all of them. I was just contemplated purchasing one in case of -degree emergencies.

I just have a decent battery on a 2 wheel dolly with a maintenance charger on it and it is ready for any vehicle I have, I do have some quick connects on it and I can just plug it into my diesel for a boost if need be and will be putting them on the other vehicles. I have to get the connectors in the trash and reused the terminals but may not be cost effective if you had to buy them. Might have about 30 at about $15+ apiece. ED

Just last week, I finally put together something I'd bought the parts for several times.

Battery, clamps to mate to the battery, NAPA heavy duty battery clippie doobers, an old pair of jumper cables with the ends cut off, Voila, jump box!

I've got a Mighty Mite, and it always seems to do what it's supposed to. I have nothing else to compare it to though. I got it for Christmas around 8 years ago and it still works like a champ. I don't think it is made in the "Mighty Mite" form anymore though.

Here's a Craig's list ad for what I actually have:
http://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/pts/1516232237.html

Here's what I believe to be the current incarnation of the Mighty Mite:
http://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-IP-...2113544&sr=8-9

I've seen the Schumacher/Mighty Mite referenced together a time or two so I think they're the same thing.

I've used it to start 100's of vehicles, and for 3 years it was the only way I ever started my riding lawn mower. My Jeep used to be a mobile juke box at parties (1200 Watts of wasted money) and I relied on the Mighty Mite to get me home dozens of times.

Last winter we had a horrible ice storm and were without power for about 10 days. Thankfully the Mighty Mite had a full charge before hand, because it kept 3 cell phones in operation, and a fluorescent Coleman camping lantern on an as needed basis (not continuously lit) thanks to it's 12v cigarette lighter outlet.

There are other jump starters with a lot more bells and whistles, but for just a portable battery my Mighty Mite has been great!

Here, I made your problem obvious. I have had better luck with Sears Diehard Gold and Platinums than Opty's, in abusive situations. I am really loving the Platinum I picked up.

I blew my money elsware on a winch. Time to purchase atleast 2 really quality batteries for my wheeling rigs since i'll be using the winch in both of them. I think the old batteries will be my spares or jump batteries similar to what u all stated early.

I had a simple jump-pack that I beat the snot out of for years, and got well more than my 80 bucks worth... that kind of convenience is tough to beat, and I'm willing to trade some power for heightened portability. It was slowing down on charge when it disappeared out of my truck, so i took it as a sign.

I'd love to find one of these that plugged into 12V for recharge, but in a one-way fashion so that it didn't drain down when the vehicle drains down. That's probably a simple diode to configure, but I r kinda dumm wit da sparkz.

I'll buy another when I next need it... I got GREAT use out of it.

I am looking into these and seeing if anyone has any new opinions on current brands of jump packs?

We did get a 2nd of the one I mentioned above.

Using one to power router / internet stuff when power is out, and 1 we keep ready to use as a jump. If power is out for long periods we rotate them while recharging on the genny.

For the price we've gotten our usage out of them and they work great for camping jumping ATVs and powering small things.
