Cheap Plasma Cutter
I've had it w/ sawzalls and portaband and hole saws...
Deciding to get one of these finally... I'd want to start by saying that I always do my best to buy American made but for this instant... I just can't come near the price for plasma cutter w/ larger capacity made by American brands... Been looking around on ebay and craigstlst and I keep seeing these CUT50 plasma cutter... the are made by like 3 different brand names, but I'm pretty sure its the same Chinese factory cranking them out and putting different "brand" names on them.. http://cgi.ebay.com/50A-New-Plasma-C...item414a084a71 It states that it can do 17" of 1/2" in a minute... I will mostly be cutting 1/4" steel and would like it to be able to do it quickly and clean, at most 3/8" for long arm frame mounts. Any opinons? I have used plasma cutters before but I am pretty new to how they are rated and such.... Is there a cutting size vs. amperage comparsion like there is w/ welders? ie. my hobart handler 210amp = approx 3/8" and the 187amp I believe was 1/4" single pass. If anyone has any input on these, or could recommend another "cheap" plasma cutter that would be great. and as always I am keeping an eye out for used hobart, miller, etc. machines but am exploring cheap option as well. Thanks, MIke.

i have one i use nearly every day for the last 2 years no issues as of yet.
solid little machine and cuts well under 1/4 in, anything larger it tends too cut on a angle. the consumables are a bit small and uses them up fast but for the price you cant go wrong |

Do not know if you bought one already or not but i posted in the other thread about the hardwakon one it appears to be the same thing but with a 3 year warranty and only about 20 bucks more. From what i am seeing for prices though and afte rreading some posts i am debating going with something from longevity on here. If he gives you the free consumables with it then it is close to what you would pay for a cutter and consumables on these ebay ones and i read his have a 5 year warranty. Only downside is your paying shipping both ways instead of one way.

I've never done business with any of these cheap cutter people, but if I were to buy one, I'd get one from Longevity, Everlast, or Giant Tech. Why? They've been in business for a few years (better than a fly-by-night ebayer that happened to import a container full of cutters). They're sponsors on this site. And they're also very present over on WeldingWeb (with their own forums). So you know where these manufacturers are, where their customers are, and how to reach them. Other cutter importers? Who knows.
Just my $.02. I'm very happy with my Powermax 45, no regrets about spending a little extra $$.

I've have a GiantTech Cut40 for a couple years. I've used it quite a bit with no issues to date. It's not the best quality construction but customer service has been very good and it is light years better than the gas axe for most things. As Cabletech said, if you go the cheap route make sure you talk to the vendor first.
