HF tubing roller axle sucks....

so I desucked it

Broached a key way in the die, milled a key way in the shaft. Cut the key to the length of the die, insert into the die key way, then push the shaft through the pusher die bearings.

Very cool. I considered something like that but SWAG includes a new drive axle w every die set and I needed to order a set anyhow.

Here's my question: can you run a 1/4-28 tap thru the M6xwhatever holes HF provides in the stock dies and expect it to last? Much of the problem originates from the provided M6 socket head cap screws which are softer than butter. They mushroom on the end and then when you try to remove them you destroy the M6 threads.

I think it was JR said he stepped up to 5/16" but I'd rather stay 1/4" on all of them as that's what the SWAG dies are.

I see what you are saying. In the die above, the threaded holes stripped on the first use. I was cautious and snugged up each after a few times back and forth.

I dont know how long the screws will last, I didnt want to screw with it.

I thought about offering a service to cut the key ways, but I dont think it would be affordable to ship heavy dies to me, the hour of work, and ship them back to you....Plus how will you broach the drive wheel. If you use the roller a lot though, it may be worth it....

Im open to it though, if anyone wants it done, PM me.

It's worth it to order a die set from SWAG just to see how he ingeniously packages his die sets and replacement drive axle using all USPS boxing and some creative utility knife work. I was very impressed.

Priority flat rate is under $12 so shipping isn't out of the question.

As the lady at the po struggled to get the box up to counter level she said, "Wow, they got their money's worth out of that flat rate."

I ordered the flat bar die, and a 1.75" die from SWAG, I will probably order an 1.5" die next month. Does anyone know if the SWAG dies oval the tube as bad as the HF dies do?
