Third member seems to be stuck in the housing....

I'm running 404's and I have a busted 3rd member. Last night I tried to pull it completely out, and it keeps hanging up on the ring gear. Is there a special trick to getting them out? It seems like I need to rotate it about 5-8 degrees clock wise and then the ring gear will come through a notch, but I cant get it to rotate that far. Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Rusty

oooooooo thats a job if there ever was one. you have to rotate it counter clockwise alot more than you are thinking. it will seem like it cant spin anymore, and with some more wiggling and fighting it will. then youll have to fight some more till it comes out like a heavy stupid pig.
hope that helps

Make sure you knock the dowell pins out completely. I drive them straight into the housing before I undo all of the bolts.

With the dowell pins out you can rotate the third with it pushed up tight against the axle housing, it rotates right around to the correct alignment very easily then.

Just make sure to fish the pins out of the bottom of the housing before you start putting everyting back together.

We got it out. We nocked the set pins out, rotated it 270 degrees clock wise, and it came right out! I appreciate all the help from you guys, and also, the help from Mac at exaxt 4x4!
