manual to auto tranny swap
i was wondering how hard it would be to put a 00ish auto tranny in my 00 tj ive had nothing but trouble out of my 3550 been rebuilt wasnt right the first three times got tired of taking it out and putting it back in tired of dealing with the rebuild shop and dont care to spend another 800 to rebuild it again. ive looked into putting a 700R4 in but then id have to get an expencive adapter and then buy an adapter to fit the jeep tcase and switch output the output shaft in the tranny to accept the 23 spline cause i plan on putting a dana 300 in one day. so onto the auto question i figure il have to rob the ecm and will the shifter out of the doner work in my console? what other kinds of things will i need and what years have the 23 spline output and id prefer a 4spd the over drive is a must.
thanks ryan

The best option is for an aw4 out of a cherokee. They can be had for fairly cheap and the swap is easier to do than the 3sp from a tj. The 5sp tj is the best option too as the wiring is more difficult if the tj had the auto to begin with. You could skip all the wiring bullshit and get a tranny contrloer from raddesigns too if you wanted it to be real easy. FWIW I love my aw4 in my tj. It was worth every second of the effort.

And search here for more of this swap info as its been discussed a few times recently. Also go to stu's site for a complete rundown on the swap. You can download all the wiring diagrams if you want to make the tranny run as a true auto.
