In Memory of: Boxy Lady
It's a sad day
![]() The family is safe and no one was hurt: A very well known H1, Boxy Lady, owned by Rick Roberts aka kingkozy, was lost in a fire last weekend. Rick and Boxy were driving to Big Bear to cook dinner for the San Bernardino National Forest Association Off Highway Vehicle volunteer BBQ on Sunday. The truck was getting hot going up the hill and when he pulled over to let people go by, he noticed a great deal of smoke coming from the truck. They bailed out and looked under the truck. Transmission Fluid was pouring out of the transmission and transfer case area. An exhaust pipe that crosses over the torque converter runs down the side of the tranny and transfer case. The hot exhaust ignited the transmission fluid. After multiple attempts to extinguish the flames, he realized it was time to detach the Psycho Kitchen (trailer) and grabbed a few things out of the back before it became completely engulfed in flames. Rick and his family are safe and well, and grieving their loss of Boxy Lady. It is a huge loss. Boxy Lady is the only H1 to run the Fordyce Creek trail during the famous Sierra Trek event sponsored by California Association of 4 Wheel Drive Clubs. Rick and I ran the event in 2008. It was the best run I've ever had, and I will never forget. Boxy Lady had made quite an impression on me, and the fact that she did so well was due the impressive skill of her driver. Rick is also a leader for the famous So Cal Hummer Club know as the H1 Psycho Squad. This group of H1 owners are know to be the hardest core H1 wheeling club in America. Enough blather for now. I hope to see Rick recoup from this loss soon, and await his return to the Trails.

Rick, I had a moment of disbelief when I saw the first email about the fire. I'm just glad that most of the food was saved . . . uhhh . . . I mean that everybody was okay!

People are always gona hate on hummers especially H1's getting damaged its just in their nature, we just have to learn and not let it bother you. Just last weekend one of my own friends hit my H1 by accident and you should of heard how happy some of the hatters around laughed. I could understand if it was funny from me doing something stupid but no, people laughed just because they saw carnage. it wasnt even that bad he bounced of my tire and got caught up on my brushguard causing all types of plastic to fly up in the air thank god it was all his damage cuz fawker doesnt have insurance
![]() In small words people will always gona hate on all hummers and thank you for making me feel a lil more special all you haters. Haha

I, for one, think that the H1 is fricking awesome. When I was 20 I really wanted one. They were auctioning them from the military without engines. $2000. I was so going to get one, but I kept spending my money on other things.
Anyway, hope things turn out well.

That is rough. I hate to see anyone lose a vehicle like that. I lost my 89 Toyota pickup in May to a fuel leak that damn near burned the truck to the ground. It's such a helpless feeling standing there watching it car-b-que itself up. I now carry 2 5lbs extinguishers in all my vehicles.
Good luck with the ins company. Sorry for your lose. |

sorry to hear about the loss of this rig. while it might be tough to replace the rig and the time/money invested, no one was hurt or killed. hopefully the proper insurance was carried and replacement can be as seamless as can be expected
