I was thinking that exactly. Anyone have experience with Dzus fasteners? I can get them from a oval track shop that I did some side work for, he'd rather (So would I) pay me in barter. Do they hold tightly? Would there be a problem using them on a street driven truck?

A few years ago there was a cool ex race truck chevy stepside for sale I looked at buying. He had male/female tube about 1" with pins. I'm fuzzy on details, been a while, but that's how I'd do it.

I decided the hitch is staying put, and going to mount the spare above it, that is my 35" BFG, and there is room for a 37 if I do a little trimming:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It is nice and low, easy to see around and access, and should help put some weight out back and low. I am going to put another tire mount on my roof rack for when I need to use the bed to haul stuff. |

Any thoughts about raising the hitch up some? I know that would sort of screw your low tire mount but the hitch seems to hang down pretty low. If it's not a concern then it's no big deal but I had good luck with my W100 when I cut the hitch and mounted the hits to the inside of the top lip of the frame and not the bottom lip. I then bolted the sides through the frame rails so it was probably stronger that way than just hanging off the bottom of the frame. Plus it raised the hitch up about 4". It may not be worth it with your plans but I thought I'd mention it since the hitch seems to be out there pretty far compared to the frame and bed.

My original plan was to move up the trailer hitch, but I already use an 8" drop hitch on my car hauler, If I were to raise it another 6" I'd have a 14" drop, and the idea of that scares me. I have had the truck on the Pink trail at the badlands, and was able to keep the hitch from dragging by line choice. I am building the the truck to chase at desert races, along with some mild pre-running, but it will also be my primary tow rig as well, so I need to make comprimises. This is why I went with the mini packs instead of full leaf packs as well, I don't care for the 909 Squat while towing. I will look at it again tomorrow, maybe I could find a happy medium, and raise it so the bottom is even with the spring hangers, looks to be ~ 3" or so.
