go with the downey tbi conversion. Increased milage,hp, and torque . Nor do they flood on extreme angles.

The best carb has fuel injectors sticking out of it.
q-jet is a distant second, with everything else behind it.

Aisin carbs are very well engineered for the vehicle. I would just rebuild it.
BTW, welcome Noob ![]() Phil

There are places on the web where you can post up that you are willing to trade your Aisan carb for an aftermarket and you will get plenty of offers for just about any aftermarket carb you desire. Makes you stop to wonder what they know that you don't.

With the stock 6 I liked the weber, i have heard a lot of things on the Holley if you drop the float 1/8 and extend the overflow at a 90 that it is a great carb also. I was just told that by a few people dont really know from experience though.

For performance, I like the weber 38mm, but it'll cost you over $400 to get started, then it'll rape you at the gas pump. I've retrofitted a couple Motorcraft 2bl's on F engines with very good results, you can pick them rebuilt from you're local parts house for under a $100 and either use a Holley adapter or make you're own. Motorcrafts work as good as quadrajets off road, and you can get them in the 350 cfm range unlike a quadrajet which I think is more like 600-750 cfm.

I had a Weber.... ate fuel like crazy.
Stock ran well and worked well offroad once rebuilt (went this route a couple times from Marks and Jim C.).... overall, a great choice. Then I got a diesel and... ![]() I had the downey EFI kit... PO installed it, didn't idle right, I could not get it right.... Consider a a 3FE FI conversion from junkyard stuff... intake, sensors, air intake, fuel pump and computer...not 100% sure it would work on an F but 2F is documented. Have any pics of yer 40? I could opinionate moreif I saw it

Webber 38 runs great once you tweek them, they are almost always jetted too rich, i stepped mine down a bunch, but I am also a mile high. Milage was good the last time I drove it on the road. You need to drop the float level so they don't flood at angles, and breather extensions are a good idea also although I have yet to do that.
The stock carbs work very well when in good condition, they are a bit more complex though. Getting your stock unit rebuilt by a pro is your best bet.
